1. Jesús, lleno del Espíritu Santo, volvió del Jordán,
16. Vino a Nazaret, donde se había criado; y en el día de reposo entró en la sinagoga, conforme a su costumbre, y se levantó a leer.
17. Y se le dio el libro del profeta Isaías; y habiendo abierto el libro, halló el lugar donde estaba escrito:
18. El Espíritu del Señor está sobre mí, Por cuanto me ha ungido para dar buenas nuevas a los pobres; Me ha enviado a sanar a los quebrantados de corazón; A pregonar libertad a los cautivos, Y vista a los ciegos; A poner en libertad a los oprimidos;
19. A predicar el año agradable del Señor.
20. Y enrollando el libro, lo dio al ministro, y se sentó; y los ojos de todos en la sinagoga estaban fijos en él.

16. And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
17. And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,
18. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19. To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
20. And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.
21. And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

1 He aquí mi siervo, yo le sostendré; mi escogido, en quien mi alma tiene contentamiento; he puesto sobre él mi Espíritu; él traerá justicia a las naciones.
5 Así dice Jehová Dios, Creador de los cielos, y el que los despliega; el que extiende la tierra y sus productos; el que da aliento al pueblo que mora sobre ella, y espíritu a los que por ella andan:
6 Yo Jehová te he llamado en justicia, y te sostendré por la mano; te guardaré y te pondré por pacto al pueblo, por luz de las naciones,
7 para que abras los ojos de los ciegos, para que saques de la cárcel a los presos, y de casas de prisión a los que moran en tinieblas.
1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.
5 Thus saith God the Lord, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:
6 I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;
7 To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.

7 Este vino por testimonio, para que diese testimonio de la luz, a fin de que todos creyesen por él.
8 No era él la luz, sino para que diese testimonio de la luz.
9 Aquella luz verdadera, que alumbra a todo hombre, venía a este mundo.
10 En el mundo estaba, y el mundo por él fue hecho; pero el mundo no le conoció.
11 A lo suyo vino, y los suyos no le recibieron.
12 Mas a todos los que le recibieron, a los que creen en su nombre, les dio potestad de ser hechos hijos de Dios;
13 los cuales no son engendrados de sangre, ni de voluntad de carne, ni de voluntad de varón, sino de Dios.

6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
13 Entonces Jesús vino de Galilea a Juan al Jordán, para ser bautizado por él.
14 Mas Juan se le oponía, diciendo: Yo necesito ser bautizado por ti, ¿y tú vienes a mí?
15 Pero Jesús le respondió: Deja ahora, porque así conviene que cumplamos toda justicia. Entonces le dejó.
16 Y Jesús, después que fue bautizado, subió luego del agua; y he aquí los cielos le fueron abiertos, y vio al Espíritu de Dios que descendía como paloma, y venía sobre él.
17 Y hubo una voz de los cielos, que decía: Este es mi Hijo amado, en quien tengo complacencia.
13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
23 Y recorrió Jesús toda Galilea, enseñando en las sinagogas de ellos, y predicando el evangelio del reino, y sanando toda enfermedad y toda dolencia en el pueblo.
24 Y se difundió su fama por toda Siria; y le trajeron todos los que tenían dolencias, los afligidos por diversas enfermedades y tormentos, los endemoniados, lunáticos y paralíticos; y los sanó.
23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
24 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.
1 Viendo la multitud, subió al monte; y sentándose, vinieron a él sus discípulos.
2 Y abriendo su boca les enseñaba, diciendo:
3 Bienaventurados los pobres en espíritu, porque de ellos es el reino de los cielos.
4 Bienaventurados los que lloran, porque ellos recibirán consolación.
5 Bienaventurados los mansos, porque ellos recibirán la tierra por heredad.
6 Bienaventurados los que tienen hambre y sed de justicia, porque ellos serán saciados.
7 Bienaventurados los misericordiosos, porque ellos alcanzarán misericordia.
8 Bienaventurados los de limpio corazón, porque ellos verán a Dios.
9 Bienaventurados los pacificadores, porque ellos serán llamados hijos de Dios.

12 Gozaos y alegraos, porque vuestro galardón es grande en los cielos; porque así persiguieron a los profetas que fueron antes de vosotros.
17 No penséis que he venido para abrogar la ley o los profetas; no he venido para abrogar, sino para cumplir.
18 Porque de cierto os digo que hasta que pasen el cielo y la tierra, ni una jota ni una tilde pasará de la ley, hasta que todo se haya cumplido.
1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
2 Y al oír Juan, en la cárcel, los hechos de Cristo, le envió dos de sus discípulos,
3 para preguntarle: ¿Eres tú aquel que había de venir, o esperaremos a otro?
4 Respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Id, y haced saber a Juan las cosas que oís y veis.
5 Los ciegos ven, los cojos andan, los leprosos son limpiados, los sordos oyen, los muertos son resucitados, y a los pobres es anunciado el evangelio;
6 y bienaventurado es el que no halle tropiezo en mí.
2 Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,
3 And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?
4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:
5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
30 De cierto os digo,
31 El cielo y la tierra pasarán, pero mis palabras no pasarán.
32 Pero de aquel día y de la hora nadie sabe, ni aun los ángeles que están en el cielo, ni el Hijo, sino el Padre.
33 Mirad, velad y orad; porque no sabéis cuándo será el tiempo.
34 Es como el hombre que yéndose lejos, dejó su casa, y dio autoridad a sus siervos, y a cada uno su obra, y al portero mandó que velase.
35 Velad, pues, porque no sabéis cuándo vendrá el señor de la casa; si al anochecer, o a la medianoche, o al canto del gallo, o a la mañana;
36 para que cuando venga de repente, no os halle durmiendo.
37 Y lo que a vosotros digo, a todos lo digo: Velad.
30 Verily I say unto you,
31 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.
34 For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.
35 Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:
36 Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.
37 And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.
20 … y he aquí yo estoy con vosotros todos los días, hasta el fin del mundo. Amén.
20 …and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Jesús de Nazaret enseñó y demostró la unidad del hombre con el Padre, y por eso le debemos homenaje eterno. Su misión fue a la vez individual y colectiva. Él hizo bien la obra de la vida, no sólo en justicia para consigo mismo, sino por misericordia para con los mortales —para enseñarles a hacerla ellos mismos pero no para hacerla por ellos ni para eximirlos de una sola responsabilidad. Jesús obró valientemente, en contra del testimonio acreditado de los sentidos, en contra de los credos y las prácticas de los fariseos, y refutó a todos los opositores con su poder curativo.
Jesus of Nazareth taught and demonstrated man's oneness with the Father, and for this we owe him endless homage. His mission was both individual and collective. He did life's work aright not only in justice to himself, but in mercy to mortals, — to show them how to do theirs, but not to do it for them nor to relieve them of a single responsibility. Jesus acted boldly, against the accredited evidence of the senses, against Pharisaical creeds and practices, and he refuted all opponents with his healing power.
Como el ideal individual de la Verdad, Cristo Jesús vino a reprender el error rabínico y todo pecado, enfermedad y muerte —a señalar el camino de la Verdad y la Vida. Este ideal fue demostrado durante toda la carrera terrenal de Jesús, señalando la diferencia entre el linaje del Alma y el del sentido material, entre el linaje de la Verdad y el del error.
As the individual ideal of Truth, Christ Jesus came to rebuke rabbinical error and all sin, sickness, and death, — to point out the way of Truth and Life. This ideal was demonstrated throughout the whole earthly career of Jesus, showing the difference between the offspring of Soul and of material sense, of Truth and of error.
El origen y la comprensión espirituales de Jesús le capacitaron para demostrar las realidades del ser —para probar de manera irrefutable cómo la Verdad espiritual destruye al error material, sana a la enfermedad y vence a la muerte. La concepción divina de Jesús señaló hacia esa verdad y presentó una ilustración de la creación. La historia de Jesús demuestra que él fue más espiritual que ninguna otra de las personalidades terrenales.
Teniendo en parte una figura humana (esto es, según parecía a la vista mortal), habiendo sido concebido por una madre humana, Jesús fue el mediador entre el Espíritu y la carne, entre la Verdad y el error. Al explicar y demostrar el camino de la Ciencia divina, vino a ser el camino de salvación para todos los que aceptaban su palabra. Los mortales pueden aprender de él a liberarse del mal. Estando el hombre real unido a su Hacedor por medio de la Ciencia, los mortales sólo tienen que apartarse del pecado y perder de vista la entidad mortal, para encontrar al Cristo, al hombre verdadero y su relación con Dios, y para reconocer la filiación divina. Jesus' spiritual origin and understanding enabled him to demonstrate the facts of being, — to prove irrefutably how spiritual Truth destroys material error, heals sickness, and overcomes death. The divine conception of Jesus pointed to this truth and presented an illustration of creation. The history of Jesus shows him to have been more spiritual than all other earthly personalities.
Wearing in part a human form (that is, as it seemed to mortal view), being conceived by a human mother, Jesus was the mediator between Spirit and the flesh, between Truth and error. Explaining and demonstrating the way of divine Science, he became the way of salvation to all who accepted his word. From him mortals may learn how to escape from evil. The real man being linked by Science to his Maker, mortals need only turn from sin and lose sight of mortal selfhood to find Christ, the real man and his relation to God, and to recognize the divine sonship. Christ, Truth, was demonstrated through Jesus to prove the power of Spirit over the flesh, — to show that Truth is made manifest by its effects upon the human mind and body, healing sickness and destroying sin.
Jesús estableció por medio de la demostración lo que dijo, dando así a sus acciones mayor importancia que a sus palabras. Él probó lo que enseñó. Esto es la Ciencia del cristianismo. Jesús probó que el Principio que sana al enfermo y echa fuera al error es divino. Pocos, sin embargo, excepto sus discípulos, entendieron en lo más mínimo sus enseñanzas y las gloriosas pruebas de esas enseñanzas —a saber, que la Vida, la Verdad y el Amor (el Principio de esa Ciencia no reconocida) destruyen todo error, todo mal, enfermedad y muerte.
Jesus established what he said by demonstration, thus making his acts of higher importance than his words. He proved what he taught. This is the Science of Christianity. Jesus proved the Principle, which heals the sick and casts out error, to be divine. Few, however, except his students understood in the least his teachings and their glorious proofs, — namely, that Life, Truth, and Love (the Principle of this unacknowledged Science) destroy all error, evil, disease, and death.
Jesús de Nazaret fue el hombre más científico que jamás anduvo por la tierra. Penetraba por debajo de la superficie material de las cosas y encontraba la causa espiritual.
Jesus of Nazareth was the most scientific man that ever trod the globe. He plunged beneath the material surface of things, and found the spiritual cause.
El Sermón del Monte es la esencia de esa Ciencia, y la vida eterna de Jesús, no su muerte, es el resultado.
The Sermon on the Mount is the essence of this Science, and the eternal life, not the death of Jesus, is its outcome.
Nuestro Maestro no enseñó una mera teoría, doctrina o creencia. Fue el Principio divino de todo ser real lo que enseñó y practicó. Su prueba del cristianismo no fue una forma o un sistema de religión y culto, sino la Ciencia Cristiana, demostrando con obras la armonía de la Vida y el Amor. Jesús envió un mensaje a Juan el Bautista, cuyo objeto era probar fuera de toda duda que el Cristo había venido: "Id, haced saber a Juan lo que habéis visto y oído: los ciegos ven, los cojos andan, los leprosos son limpiados, los sordos oyen, los muertos son resucitados, y a los pobres es anunciado el evangelio". En otras palabras: Decid a Juan lo que es la demostración del poder divino, y en seguida percibirá que Dios es el poder en la obra mesiánica.
Our Master taught no mere theory, doctrine, or belief. It was the divine Principle of all real being which he taught and practised. His proof of Christianity was no form or system of religion and worship, but Christian Science, working out the harmony of Life and Love. Jesus sent a message to John the Baptist, which was intended to prove beyond a question that the Christ had come: "Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached." In other words: Tell John what the demonstration of divine power is, and he will at once perceive that God is the power in the Messianic work.
Aunque demostraba su dominio sobre el pecado y la enfermedad, el gran Maestro de ningún modo eximió a los demás de que por sí mismos dieran las pruebas indispensables de piedad. Trabajó para guiarles, a fin de que pudiesen demostrar ese poder como él lo demostró y comprender el Principio divino de ese poder. Una fe sin reservas en el Maestro y todo el amor emotivo que podamos dedicarle, jamás nos harán, por sí solos, sus imitadores. Tenemos que hacer lo que él hizo, de lo contrario no estamos aprovechando las grandes bendiciones que el trabajo y el sufrimiento de nuestro Maestro nos otorgaron.
Though demonstrating his control over sin and disease, the great Teacher by no means relieved others from giving the requisite proofs of their own piety. He worked for their guidance, that they might demonstrate this power as he did and understand its divine Principle. Implicit faith in the Teacher and all the emotional love we can bestow on him, will never alone make us imitators of him. We must go and do likewise, else we are not improving the great blessings which our Master worked and suffered to bestow upon us.
Su ejemplo consumado fue para la salvación de todos nosotros, pero sólo a condición de que hagamos las obras que él hizo y que enseñó a hacer a los demás. Su propósito al curar, no era sólo restaurar la salud, sino demostrar su Principio divino. Estaba inspirado por Dios, por la Verdad y el Amor, en todo lo que dijo e hizo.
His consummate example was for the salvation of us all, but only through doing the works which he did and taught others to do. His purpose in healing was not alone to restore health, but to demonstrate his divine Principle. He was inspired by God, by Truth and Love, in all that he said and did.
Jesús dijo (Juan 8:51): "El que guarda mi palabra, nunca verá muerte". Esa declaración no se limita a la vida espiritual, sino que incluye todos los fenómenos de la existencia. Jesús demostró eso sanando a los moribundos y resucitando a los muertos. La mente mortal tiene que desprenderse del error, tiene que despojarse de sí misma con sus hechos, y aparecerá la naturaleza inmortal del hombre, el ideal del Cristo. Jesus said (John viii. 51), "If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death." That statement is not confined to spiritual life, but includes all the phenomena of existence. Jesus demonstrated this, healing the dying and raising the dead. Mortal mind must part with error, must put off itself with its deeds, and immortal manhood, the Christ ideal, will appear. Faith should enlarge its borders and strengthen its base by resting upon Spirit instead of matter. When man gives up his belief in death, he will advance more rapidly towards God, Life, and Love.
¿Cuándo aprenderán los que profesan ser seguidores de Jesús a emularlo en todo y a imitar sus poderosas obras? Aquellos que causaron el martirio de aquel hombre justo, gustosamente hubieran convertido su sagrada carrera en una plataforma doctrinaria mutilada. ¡Quieran los cristianos de hoy obrar de acuerdo con el significado más práctico de aquella carrera! Es posible —sí, es deber y privilegio de todo niño, hombre y mujer— seguir, en cierto grado, el ejemplo del Maestro mediante la demostración de la Verdad y la Vida, la salud y la santidad. Los cristianos pretenden ser sus seguidores, pero ¿le siguen acaso de la manera que él mandó? Oíd estos imperiosos mandatos: "¡Sed, pues, vosotros perfectos, como vuestro Padre que está en los cielos es perfecto!" "¡Id por todo el mundo y predicad el evangelio a toda criatura!" "¡Sanad enfermos!"
When will Jesus' professed followers learn to emulate him in all his ways and to imitate his mighty works? Those who procured the martyrdom of that righteous man would gladly have turned his sacred career into a mutilated doctrinal platform. May the Christians of to-day take up the more practical import of that career! It is possible, — yea, it is the duty and privilege of every child, man, and woman, — to follow in some degree the example of the Master by the demonstration of Truth and Life, of health and holiness. Christians claim to be his followers, but do they follow him in the way that he commanded? Hear these imperative commands: "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect!" "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature!" "Heal the sick!"

Será deber de cada miembro de esta Iglesia orar diariamente: "Venga Tu reino"; haz que el reino de la Verdad, la Vida y el Amor divinos se establezca en mí, y quita de mí todo pecado; ¡y que Tu Palabra fecunde los afectos de toda la humanidad, y los gobierne!
Ni la animosidad ni el mero afecto personal deben impulsar los móviles o actos de los miembros de La Iglesia Madre. En la Ciencia, sólo el Amor divino gobierna al hombre, y el Científico Cristiano refleja la dulce amenidad del Amor al reprender el pecado, al expresar verdadera confraternidad, caridad y perdón. Los miembros de esta Iglesia deben velar y orar diariamente para ser liberados de todo mal, de profetizar, juzgar, condenar, aconsejar, influir o ser influidos erróneamente.
Será deber de todo miembro de esta Iglesia defenderse a diario de toda sugestión mental agresiva, y no dejarse inducir a olvido o negligencia en cuanto a su deber para con Dios, para con su Guía y para con la humanidad. Por sus obras será juzgado, — y justificado o condenado.
