3. We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,
9. For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
10. That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
11. Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

3 Yo de cierto soy judío, nacido en Tarso de Cilicia, pero criado en esta ciudad, instruido a los pies de Gamaliel, estrictamente conforme a la ley de nuestros padres, celoso de Dios, como hoy lo sois todos vosotros.
5 de quienes también recibí cartas para los hermanos, y fui a Damasco para traer presos a Jerusalén también a los que estuviesen allí, para que fuesen castigados.
6 Pero aconteció que yendo yo, al llegar cerca de Damasco, como a mediodía, de repente me rodeó mucha luz del cielo;
7 y caí al suelo, y oí una voz que me decía: Saulo, Saulo, ¿por qué me persigues?
8 Yo entonces respondí: ¿Quién eres, Señor? Y me dijo: Yo soy Jesús de Nazaret, a quien tú persigues.
10 Y dije: ¿Qué haré, Señor? Y el Señor me dijo: Levántate, y ve a Damasco, y allí se te dirá todo lo que está ordenado que hagas.

3 I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.
5 I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished.
6 And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me.
7 And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
8 And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest.
10 And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do.
11 And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus.
12 And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there,
13 Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him.
14 And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth.
15 For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.
1 Aconteció en Iconio que entraron juntos en la sinagoga de los judíos, y hablaron de tal manera que creyó una gran multitud de judíos, y asimismo de griegos.
2 Mas los judíos que no creían excitaron y corrompieron los ánimos de los gentiles contra los hermanos.
19 Entonces vinieron unos judíos de Antioquía y de Iconio, que persuadieron a la multitud, y habiendo apedreado a Pablo, le arrastraron fuera de la ciudad, pensando que estaba muerto.
20 Pero rodeándole los discípulos, se levantó y entró en la ciudad; y al día siguiente salió con Bernabé para Derbe.
1 And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.
2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.
19 And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead.
20 Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.
7 El primer día de la semana, reunidos los discípulos para partir el pan, Pablo les enseñaba, habiendo de salir al día siguiente; y alargó el discurso hasta la medianoche.
8 Y había muchas lámparas en el aposento alto donde estaban reunidos;
9 y un joven llamado Eutico, que estaba sentado en la ventana, rendido de un sueño profundo, por cuanto Pablo disertaba largamente, vencido del sueño cayó del tercer piso abajo, y fue levantado muerto.
10 Entonces descendió Pablo y se echó sobre él, y abrazándole, dijo: No os alarméis, pues está vivo.
11 Después de haber subido, y partido el pan y comido, habló largamente hasta el alba; y así salió.
12 Y llevaron al joven vivo, y fueron grandemente consolados.
7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.
8 And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were gathered together.
9 And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead.
10 And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him.
11 When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed.
12 And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted.

2 Y embarcándonos en una nave adramitena, zarpamos,
14 … no mucho después dio contra la nave un viento huracanado llamado Euroclidón.
20 Y no apareciendo ni sol ni estrellas por muchos días, y acosados por una tempestad no pequeña, ya habíamos perdido toda esperanza de salvarnos.
21 Entonces Pablo, como hacía ya mucho que no comíamos, puesto en pie en medio de ellos, dijo:
22 ahora os exhorto a tener buen ánimo, pues no habrá ninguna pérdida de vida entre vosotros, sino solamente de la nave.
23 Porque esta noche ha estado conmigo el ángel del Dios de quien soy y a quien sirvo,
24 diciendo: Pablo, no temas; es necesario que comparezcas ante César; y he aquí, Dios te ha concedido todos los que navegan contigo.
25 Por tanto, oh varones, tened buen ánimo; porque yo confío en Dios que será así como se me ha dicho.
44 Y así aconteció que todos se salvaron saliendo a tierra.
1 And when it was determined that we should sail into Italy,
2 And entering into a ship of Adramyttium, we launched,
14 …not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon.
20 And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.
21 But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said,
22 I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man’s life among you, but of the ship.
23 For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,
24 Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Cæsar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.
25 Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.
44 And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.
1 Estando ya a salvo, supimos que la isla se llamaba Malta.
2 Y los naturales nos trataron con no poca humanidad; porque encendiendo un fuego, nos recibieron a todos, a causa de la lluvia que caía, y del frío.
3 Entonces, habiendo recogido Pablo algunas ramas secas, las echó al fuego; y una víbora, huyendo del calor, se le prendió en la mano.
5 Pero él, sacudiendo la víbora en el fuego, ningún daño padeció.
30 Y Pablo permaneció dos años enteros en una casa alquilada, y recibía a todos los que a él venían,
31 predicando el reino de Dios y enseñando acerca del Señor Jesucristo, abiertamente y sin impedimento.
1 And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita.
2 And the barbarous people shewed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.
3 And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.
5 And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.
30 And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,
31 Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.
17 De modo que si alguno está en Cristo, nueva criatura es; las cosas viejas pasaron; he aquí todas son hechas nuevas.
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
La salvación universal se basa en progreso y probación, y es inalcanzable sin ellos.
Universal salvation rests on progression and probation, and is unattainable without them.
“Ocupaos en vuestra salvación con temor y temblor", dice el apóstol, y en seguida añade: "Porque Dios es el que en vosotros produce así el querer como el hacer, por Su buena voluntad" (Filipenses 2:12, 13). La Verdad ha provisto la llave del reino, y con esa llave la Ciencia Cristiana ha abierto la puerta de la comprensión humana. Nadie puede forzar la cerradura ni entrar por otra puerta.
"Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling," says the apostle, and he straightway adds: "for it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure" (Philippians ii. 12, 13). Truth has furnished the key to the kingdom, and with this key Christian Science has opened the door of the human understanding. None may pick the lock nor enter by some other door.
Cada día nos exige pruebas más convincentes y no meras profesiones de poder cristiano. Esas pruebas consisten únicamente en la destrucción del pecado, la enfermedad y la muerte por el poder del Espíritu, como Jesús los destruía. Ése es un elemento de progreso, y el progreso es la ley de Dios, cuya ley nos exige sólo lo que podemos cumplir con seguridad.
Every day makes its demands upon us for higher proofs rather than professions of Christian power. These proofs consist solely in the destruction of sin, sickness, and death by the power of Spirit, as Jesus destroyed them. This is an element of progress, and progress is the law of God, whose law demands of us only what we can certainly fulfil.
Son consecuentes quienes, velando y orando, pueden "correr, y no cansarse;... caminar, y no fatigarse", que logran el bien rápidamente y mantienen su posición, o que lo obtienen lentamente y no se rinden al desaliento. Dios exige perfección, pero no antes que se pelee la batalla entre el Espíritu y la carne y se logre la victoria. Dejar de comer, de beber o de vestirse materialmente antes que las verdades espirituales de la existencia se hayan logrado paso a paso, no es legítimo. Cuando pacientemente esperamos en Dios y honradamente buscamos la Verdad, El endereza nuestra vereda. Los imperfectos mortales llegan a comprender la finalidad de la perfección espiritual lentamente; pero empezar bien y continuar la lucha de demostrar el gran problema del ser, es hacer mucho.
Es posible que durante las épocas sensuales, no se alcance la Ciencia Cristiana absoluta antes del cambio llamado muerte, porque no tenemos el poder de demostrar lo que no comprendemos. Pero el yo humano debe evangelizarse. Dios exige que aceptemos esa tarea con amor hoy mismo y que abandonemos lo material tan pronto como sea posible, y nos ocupemos en lo espiritual, lo cual determina lo exterior y verdadero.
Individuals are consistent who, watching and praying, can "run, and not be weary; ... walk, and not faint," who gain good rapidly and hold their position, or attain slowly and yield not to discouragement. God requires perfection, but not until the battle between Spirit and flesh is fought and the victory won. To stop eating, drinking, or being clothed materially before the spiritual facts of existence are gained step by step, is not legitimate. When we wait patiently on God and seek Truth righteously, He directs our path. Imperfect mortals grasp the ultimate of spiritual perfection slowly; but to begin aright and to continue the strife of demonstrating the great problem of being, is doing much.
During the sensual ages, absolute Christian Science may not be achieved prior to the change called death, for we have not the power to demonstrate what we do not understand. But the human self must be evangelized. This task God demands us to accept lovingly to-day, and to abandon so fast as practical the material, and to work out the spiritual which determines the outward and actual.
La autora ha sanado enfermedades orgánicas desahuciadas y devuelto la vida y la salud a moribundos por medio de la comprensión de que Dios es la única Vida. Es pecado creer que exista algo que pueda prevalecer sobre la Vida omnipotente y eterna, y esa Vida tiene que ser revelada por la comprensión de que no hay muerte, así como por otras gracias del Espíritu. Debemos empezar, sin embargo, con las demostraciones más simples de dominio, y cuanto más pronto empecemos, mejor.
The author has healed hopeless organic disease, and raised the dying to life and health through the understanding of God as the only Life. It is a sin to believe that aught can overpower omnipotent and eternal Life, and this Life must be brought to light by the understanding that there is no death, as well as by other graces of Spirit. We must begin, however, with the more simple demonstrations of control, and the sooner we begin the better.
El progreso nace de la experiencia. Es la maduración del hombre mortal mediante la cual se abandona lo mortal por lo inmortal. Bien aquí o en el más allá, el sufrimiento o la Ciencia tiene que destruir todas las ilusiones con respecto a la vida y la mente y regenerar el sentido y el yo materiales. Tenemos que despojarnos del viejo hombre con sus hechos. Nada que sea sensual o pecaminoso es inmortal. La muerte de un falso concepto material y la del pecado, no la muerte de la materia orgánica, es lo que revela que el hombre y la Vida son armoniosos, reales y eternos.
Progress is born of experience. It is the ripening of mortal man, through which the mortal is dropped for the immortal. Either here or hereafter, suffering or Science must destroy all illusions regarding life and mind, and regenerate material sense and self. The old man with his deeds must be put off. Nothing sensual or sinful is immortal. The death of a false material sense and of sin, not the death of organic matter, is what reveals man and Life, harmonious, real, and eternal.
El hombre es más que una forma material con una mente adentro que tiene que escapar de su ambiente para ser inmortal. El hombre refleja infinitud, y ese reflejo es la idea verdadera de Dios.
Dios expresa en el hombre la idea infinita, que se desarrolla eternamente, que se amplía y eleva más y más desde una base ilimitada.
Man is more than a material form with a mind inside, which must escape from its environments in order to be immortal. Man reflects infinity, and this reflection is the true idea of God.
God expresses in man the infinite idea forever developing itself, broadening and rising higher and higher from a boundless basis.
Alegría de abandonar las falsas señales del camino y regocijo al verlas desaparecer es la disposición que ayuda a acelerar la armonía final. La purificación de los sentidos y del yo es prueba de progreso. "Bienaventurados los de limpio corazón, porque ellos verán a Dios".
El camino que lleva a la comprensión de que Dios es la única Vida, es recto y angosto. Es una lucha con la carne, lucha en la que tenemos que vencer al pecado, a la enfermedad y a la muerte, ya sea aquí o en el más allá —pero ciertamente antes que podamos alcanzar la meta del Espíritu, o la vida en Dios.
Gladness to leave the false landmarks and joy to see them disappear, — this disposition helps to precipitate the ultimate harmony. The purification of sense and self is a proof of progress. "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God."
The way is straight and narrow, which leads to the understanding that God is the only Life. It is a warfare with the flesh, in which we must conquer sin, sickness, and death, either here or hereafter, — certainly before we can reach the goal of Spirit, or life in God.
Tal como la muerte encuentre al hombre mortal, así será éste después de la muerte, hasta que la probación y el desarrollo efectúen el cambio necesario. La Mente jamás se convierte en polvo. Ninguna resurrección de la tumba espera a la Mente o la Vida, pues la tumba no tiene poder sobre ninguna.
Ningún juicio final espera a los mortales, pues el día del juicio de la sabiduría viene a toda hora y continuamente, el juicio por el cual el hombre mortal es despojado de todo error material.
As death findeth mortal man, so shall he be after death, until probation and growth shall effect the needed change. Mind never becomes dust. No resurrection from the grave awaits Mind or Life, for the grave has no power over either.
No final judgment awaits mortals, for the judgment-day of wisdom comes hourly and continually, even the judgment by which mortal man is divested of all material error.
Nuestro Maestro dijo: "Mas el Consolador... os enseñará todas las cosas". Cuando la Ciencia del cristianismo aparezca, os llevará a toda la verdad. El Sermón del Monte es la esencia de esa Ciencia, y la vida eterna de Jesús, no su muerte, es el resultado.
Quienes estén dispuestos a dejar sus redes o a echarlas a la derecha en pro de la Verdad, tienen ocasión ahora, como se tuvo antaño, de aprender y practicar la curación cristiana. Las Escrituras la contienen. El sentido espiritual de la Palabra imparte ese poder. Pero, así como dice Pablo: "¿Cómo oirán sin haber quien les predique? ¿Y cómo predicarán si no fueren enviados?" Si enviados, ¿cómo podrán predicar, convertir y sanar a las multitudes, a menos que la gente oiga?
Our Master said, "But the Comforter ... shall teach you all things." When the Science of Christianity appears, it will lead you into all truth. The Sermon on the Mount is the essence of this Science, and the eternal life, not the death of Jesus, is its outcome.
Those, who are willing to leave their nets or to cast them on the right side for Truth, have the opportunity now, as aforetime, to learn and to practice Christian healing. The Scriptures contain it. The spiritual import of the Word imparts this power. But, as Paul says, "How shall they hear without a preacher? and how shall they preach, except they be sent?" If sent, how shall they preach, convert, and heal multitudes, except the people hear?
Si echas tu barca sobre las siempre agitadas pero saludables aguas de la verdad, encontrarás tempestades. De tu bien se hablará mal. Eso es la cruz. Tómala y llévala, porque por medio de ella ganarás y te ceñirás la corona. Peregrino en la tierra, tu morada es el cielo; extranjero, eres el huésped de Dios.
If you launch your bark upon the ever-agitated but healthful waters of truth, you will encounter storms. Your good will be evil spoken of. This is the cross. Take it up and bear it, for through it you win and wear the crown. Pilgrim on earth, thy home is heaven; stranger, thou art the guest of God.
Por la victoria sobre un solo pecado, damos gracias y engrandecemos a Jehová de los Ejércitos. ¿Qué diremos del portentoso triunfo sobre todo pecado? Un cántico más alto, más dulce que jamás haya llegado a los cielos, se eleva ahora más claro y llega más cerca del gran corazón de Cristo; porque el acusador no está allí, y el Amor canta su prístina y perenne melodía.
For victory over a single sin, we give thanks and magnify the Lord of Hosts. What shall we say of the mighty conquest over all sin? A louder song, sweeter than has ever before reached high heaven, now rises clearer and nearer to the great heart of Christ; for the accuser is not there, and Love sends forth her primal and everlasting strain.
El ser es santidad, armonía e inmortalidad. Ya se ha comprobado que un conocimiento de eso, por pequeño que sea, elevará la norma física y moral de los mortales, aumentará la longevidad y purificará y elevará el carácter. Así el progreso destruirá finalmente todo error y sacará a luz la inmortalidad.
Being is holiness, harmony, immortality. It is already proved that a knowledge of this, even in small degree, will uplift the physical and moral standard of mortals, will increase longevity, will purify and elevate character. Thus progress will finally destroy all error, and bring immortality to light.

Será deber de cada miembro de esta Iglesia orar diariamente: "Venga Tu reino"; haz que el reino de la Verdad, la Vida y el Amor divinos se establezca en mí, y quita de mí todo pecado; ¡y que Tu Palabra fecunde los afectos de toda la humanidad, y los gobierne!
Ni la animosidad ni el mero afecto personal deben impulsar los móviles o actos de los miembros de La Iglesia Madre. En la Ciencia, sólo el Amor divino gobierna al hombre, y el Científico Cristiano refleja la dulce amenidad del Amor al reprender el pecado, al expresar verdadera confraternidad, caridad y perdón. Los miembros de esta Iglesia deben velar y orar diariamente para ser liberados de todo mal, de profetizar, juzgar, condenar, aconsejar, influir o ser influidos erróneamente.
Será deber de todo miembro de esta Iglesia defenderse a diario de toda sugestión mental agresiva, y no dejarse inducir a olvido o negligencia en cuanto a su deber para con Dios, para con su Guía y para con la humanidad. Por sus obras será juzgado, — y justificado o condenado.
