1. The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
3. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
4. One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple.
5. For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.

13. I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

39 … la salvación de los justos es de Jehová, Y él es su fortaleza en el tiempo de la angustia.
39 …the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their strength in the time of trouble.
1 Pareció bien a Darío constituir sobre el reino ciento veinte sátrapas, que gobernasen en todo el reino.
2 Y sobre ellos tres gobernadores, de los cuales Daniel era uno,
3 Pero Daniel mismo era superior a estos sátrapas y gobernadores, porque había en él un espíritu superior; y el rey pensó en ponerlo sobre todo el reino.
4 Entonces los gobernadores y sátrapas buscaban ocasión para acusar a Daniel en lo relacionado al reino; mas no podían hallar ocasión alguna o falta,
5 Entonces dijeron aquellos hombres: No hallaremos contra este Daniel ocasión alguna para acusarle, si no la hallamos contra él en relación con la ley de su Dios.
6 Entonces estos gobernadores y sátrapas se juntaron delante del rey, y le dijeron así: ¡Rey Darío, para siempre vive!
7 Todos los gobernadores del reino, magistrados, sátrapas, príncipes y capitanes han acordado por consejo que promulgues un edicto real y lo confirmes, que cualquiera que en el espacio de treinta días demande petición de cualquier dios u hombre fuera de ti, oh rey, sea echado en el foso de los leones.
8 Ahora, oh rey, confirma el edicto y fírmalo, para que no pueda ser revocado,
9 Firmó, pues, el rey Darío el edicto y la prohibición.
10 Cuando Daniel supo que el edicto había sido firmado, entró en su casa, y abiertas las ventanas de su cámara que daban hacia Jerusalén, se arrodillaba tres veces al día, y oraba y daba gracias delante de su Dios, como lo solía hacer antes.
11 Entonces se juntaron aquellos hombres, y hallaron a Daniel orando y rogando en presencia de su Dios.
12 Fueron luego ante el rey y le hablaron del edicto real: ¿No has confirmado edicto que cualquiera que en el espacio de treinta días pida a cualquier dios u hombre fuera de ti, oh rey, sea echado en el foso de los leones? Respondió el rey diciendo: Verdad es,
13 Entonces respondieron y dijeron delante del rey: Daniel, que es de los hijos de los cautivos de Judá, no te respeta a ti, oh rey, ni acata el edicto que confirmaste, sino que tres veces al día hace su petición.
14 Cuando el rey oyó el asunto, le pesó en gran manera, y resolvió librar a Daniel;
15 Pero aquellos hombres rodearon al rey y le dijeron: Sepas, oh rey, que es ley de Media y de Persia que ningún edicto u ordenanza que el rey confirme puede ser abrogado.
16 Entonces el rey mandó, y trajeron a Daniel, y le echaron en el foso de los leones. Y el rey dijo a Daniel: El Dios tuyo, a quien tú continuamente sirves, él te libre.
17 Y fue traída una piedra y puesta sobre la puerta del foso, la cual selló el rey con su anillo
18 Luego el rey se fue a su palacio, y se acostó ayuno;
19 El rey, pues, se levantó muy de mañana, y fue apresuradamente al foso de los leones.
20 Y acercándose al foso llamó a voces a Daniel con voz triste, y le dijo: Daniel, siervo del Dios viviente, el Dios tuyo, a quien tú continuamente sirves, ¿te ha podido librar de los leones?
21 Entonces Daniel respondió al rey: Oh rey, vive para siempre.
22 Mi Dios envió su ángel, el cual cerró la boca de los leones, para que no me hiciesen daño, porque ante él fui hallado inocente; y aun delante de ti, oh rey, yo no he hecho nada malo.
23 Entonces se alegró el rey en gran manera a causa de él, y mandó sacar a Daniel del foso; y fue Daniel sacado del foso, y ninguna lesión se halló en él, porque había confiado en su Dios.
25 Entonces el rey Darío escribió a todos los pueblos, naciones y lenguas que habitan en toda la tierra: Paz os sea multiplicada.
26 De parte mía es puesta esta ordenanza: Que en todo el dominio de mi reino todos teman y tiemblen ante la presencia del Dios de Daniel; porque él es el Dios viviente y permanece por todos los siglos, y su reino no será jamás destruido, y su dominio perdurará hasta el fin.
27 Él salva y libra, y hace señales y maravillas en el cielo y en la tierra; él ha librado a Daniel del poder de los leones.
1 It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom;
2 And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first:
3 Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.
4 Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault;
5 Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.
6 Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever.
7 All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.
8 Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed,
9 Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.
10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.
11 Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.
12 Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king’s decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true,
13 Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.
14 Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him:
15 Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.
16 Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.
17 And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet,
18 Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting:
19 Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions.
20 And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?
21 Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.
22 My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.
23 Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.
25 Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.
26 I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.
27 He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.
1 El que habita al abrigo del Altísimo Morará bajo la sombra del Omnipotente.
2 Diré yo a Jehová: Esperanza mía, y castillo mío; Mi Dios, en quien confiaré.
14 Por cuanto en mí ha puesto su amor, yo también lo libraré; Le pondré en alto, por cuanto ha conocido mi nombre.
15 Me invocará, y yo le responderé; Con él estaré yo en la angustia; Lo libraré y le glorificaré.
16 Lo saciaré de larga vida, Y le mostraré mi salvación.
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
8 Yo soy el Alfa y la Omega, principio y fin, dice el Señor, el que es y que era y que ha de venir, el Todopoderoso.
8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
La Vida es el eterno YO SOY, el Ser que era, y es, y que será, a quien nada puede borrar.
Life is the everlasting I am , the Being who was and is and shall be, whom nothing can erase.
Desde el comienzo hasta el fin, las Escrituras están llenas de relatos del triunfo del Espíritu, la Mente, sobre la materia. Moisés probó el poder de la Mente mediante lo que los hombres llamaron milagros; igual hicieron Josué, Elías y Elíseo. La era cristiana fue introducida por señales y prodigios.
From beginning to end, the Scriptures are full of accounts of the triumph of Spirit, Mind, over matter. Moses proved the power of Mind by what men called miracles; so did Joshua, Elijah, and Elisha. The Christian era was ushered in with signs and wonders.
En hebreo, en griego, en latín y en inglés, el vocablo fe y los términos que le corresponden tienen estas dos definiciones: estar lleno de confianza y ser digno de confianza. Con cierta clase de fe confiamos nuestro bienestar a otros. Con otra clase de fe comprendemos al Amor divino y cómo llevar a cabo la obra de nuestra "salvación con temor y temblor". "¡Creo; ayuda mi incredulidad!" expresa la ineficacia de una fe ciega; mientras que el mandato: "¡Cree... y serás salvo!" exige una seguridad en sí mismo digna de confianza, que incluye comprensión espiritual y confía todo a Dios.
El verbo hebreo creer significa también ser firme o ser constante. Eso por cierto se aplica a la Verdad y al Amor comprendidos y practicados. La firmeza en el error nunca nos salvará del pecado, la enfermedad y la muerte.
In Hebrew, Greek, Latin, and English, faith and the words corresponding thereto have these two definitions, trustfulness and trustworthiness. One kind of faith trusts one's welfare to others. Another kind of faith understands divine Love and how to work out one's "own salvation, with fear and trembling." "Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief!" expresses the helplessness of a blind faith; whereas the injunction, "Believe ... and thou shalt be saved!" demands self-reliant trustworthiness, which includes spiritual understanding and confides all to God.
The Hebrew verb to believe means also to be firm or to be constant. This certainly applies to Truth and Love understood and practised. Firmness in error will never save from sin, disease, and death.
El Amor divino que volvió inofensiva a la víbora venenosa, que salvó a los hombres del aceite hirviente, del horno de fuego ardiendo, de las fauces del león, puede sanar al enfermo en toda época y triunfar sobre el pecado y la muerte. Coronó las demostraciones de Jesús con poder y amor insuperables. Pero la misma "Mente... que hubo también en Cristo Jesús"* tiene que acompañar siempre la letra de la Ciencia a fin de confirmar y repetir las demostraciones antiguas de profetas y apóstoles. Que esas maravillas no se repiten con mayor frecuencia hoy, proviene no tanto de la falta de deseo como de la falta de desarrollo espiritual.
The divine Love, which made harmless the poisonous viper, which delivered men from the boiling oil, from the fiery furnace, from the jaws of the lion, can heal the sick in every age and triumph over sin and death. It crowned the demonstrations of Jesus with unsurpassed power and love. But the same "Mind ... which was also in Christ Jesus" must always accompany the letter of Science in order to confirm and repeat the ancient demonstrations of prophets and apostles. That those wonders are not more commonly repeated to-day, arises not so much from lack of desire as from lack of spiritual growth.
Pablo dice en su epístola a los romanos: "Los designios de la carne son enemistad contra Dios; porque no se sujetan a la ley de Dios, ni tampoco pueden; y los que viven según la carne no pueden agradar a Dios. Mas vosotros no vivís según la carne, sino según el Espíritu, si es que el espíritu de Dios mora en vosotros".
Habrá mayor oposición mental al significado espiritual y científico de las Escrituras de la que jamás ha habido desde el comienzo de la era cristiana. La serpiente, el sentido material, morderá el calcañar de la mujer —luchará por destruir la idea espiritual del Amor; y la mujer, esa idea, herirá la cabeza a la lujuria. La idea espiritual ha dado a la comprensión un punto de apoyo en la Ciencia Cristiana. La simiente de la Verdad y la simiente del error, de la creencia y de la comprensión —sí, la simiente del Espíritu y la simiente de la materia— son el trigo y la cizaña que el tiempo separará, ésta para ser quemada y aquél para ser recogido en lugares celestiales..
Paul says in his epistle to the Romans: "The carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the spirit of God dwell in you."
There will be greater mental opposition to the spiritual, scientific meaning of the Scriptures than there has ever been since the Christian era began. The serpent, material sense, will bite the heel of the woman, — will struggle to destroy the spiritual idea of Love; and the woman, this idea, will bruise the head of lust. The spiritual idea has given the understanding a foothold in Christian Science. The seed of Truth and the seed of error, of belief and of understanding, — yea, the seed of Spirit and the seed of matter, — are the wheat and tares which time will separate, the one to be burned, the other to be garnered into heavenly places.
El valor moral es "el león de la tribu de Judá", el rey del reino mental. Libre y sin temor anda por la selva. Imperturbado se echa en pleno campo, o descansa en "lugares de delicados pastos... junto a aguas de reposo". En la transmisión figurada del pensamiento divino al humano, la diligencia, la prontitud y la perseverancia son comparadas con "los millares de animales en los collados". Traen el bagaje de la firme resolución y llevan el paso con los más altos propósitos. La ternura acompaña toda la fuerza que el Espíritu imparte. La individualidad creada por Dios no es carnívora, según atestigua el estado milenario descrito por Isaías: —
Morará el lobo con el cordero,
y el leopardo con el cabrito se acostará;
el becerro y el león y la bestia doméstica andarán juntos,
y un niño los pastoreará.
Comprendiendo el dominio que el Amor mantenía sobre todo, Daniel se sintió seguro en el foso de los leones y Pablo probó que la víbora era inofensiva. Todas las criaturas de Dios, moviéndose en la armonía de la Ciencia, son inofensivas, útiles e indestructibles.
Moral courage is "the lion of the tribe of Juda," the king of the mental realm. Free and fearless it roams in the forest. Undisturbed it lies in the open field, or rests in "green pastures, ... beside the still waters." In the figurative transmission from the divine thought to the human, diligence, promptness, and perseverance are likened to "the cattle upon a thousand hills." They carry the baggage of stern resolve, and keep pace with highest purpose. Tenderness accompanies all the might imparted by Spirit. The individuality created by God is not carnivorous, as witness the millennial estate pictured by Isaiah: —
The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb,
And the leopard shall lie down with the kid;
And the calf and the young lion, and the fatling together;
And a little child shall lead them.
Understanding the control which Love held over all, Daniel felt safe in the lions' den, and Paul proved the viper to be harmless. All of God's creatures moving in the harmony of Science, are harmless, useful, indestructible.
La Mente es el creador grandioso, y no puede haber ningún poder excepto aquel que deriva de la Mente. Si la Mente fue cronológicamente lo primero, si es lo primero en potencia y si tiene que ser lo primero eternamente, entonces dad a la Mente la gloria, el honor, el imperio y la potencia debidos, por toda la eternidad, a su santo nombre.
Mind is the grand creator, and there can be no power except that which is derived from Mind. If Mind was first chronologically, is first potentially, and must be first eternally, then give to Mind the glory, honor, dominion, and power everlastingly due its holy name.
La mente humana no tiene poder para matar o sanar y no tiene dominio sobre el hombre de Dios. La Mente divina que creó al hombre, mantiene Su propia imagen y semejanza. La mente humana se opone a Dios, y hay que despojarla, como declara San Pablo. Todo lo que realmente existe es la Mente divina y su idea, y en esa Mente todo el ser se halla armonioso y eterno. El camino recto y estrecho consiste en ver y reconocer ese hecho, ceder a ese poder y seguir las indicaciones de la verdad.
The human mind has no power to kill or to cure, and it has no control over God's man. The divine Mind that made man maintains His own image and likeness. The human mind is opposed to God and must be put off, as St. Paul declares. All that really exists is the divine Mind and its idea, and in this Mind the entire being is found harmonious and eternal. The straight and narrow way is to see and acknowledge this fact, yield to this power, and follow the leadings of truth.
Las doctrinas creadas por los hombres están decayendo. No se han fortalecido en tiempos de tribulación. Desprovistas del poder de Cristo, ¿cómo pueden demostrar las doctrinas de Cristo o los milagros de la gracia divina? Negar la posibilidad de la curación cristiana roba al cristianismo el elemento mismo que le dio fuerza divina y su éxito asombroso y sin igual en el siglo primero.
Se puede demostrar que el verdadero Logos es la Ciencia Cristiana, la ley natural de la armonía que vence a la discordia —no porque esta Ciencia sea sobrenatural, o preternatural, ni porque sea una infracción de la ley divina, sino porque es la ley inmutable de Dios, el bien.
Man-made doctrines are waning. They have not waxed strong in times of trouble. Devoid of the Christ-power, how can they illustrate the doctrines of Christ or the miracles of grace? Denial of the possibility of Christian healing robs Christianity of the very element, which gave it divine force and its astonishing and unequalled success in the first century.
The true Logos is demonstrably Christian Science, the natural law of harmony which overcomes discord, — not because this Science is supernatural or preternatural, nor because it is an infraction of divine law, but because it is the immutable law of God, good.
La comprensión de que la Vida es Dios, el Espíritu, prolonga nuestros días, pues fortalece nuestra confianza en la realidad imperecedera de la Vida, su omnipotencia e inmortalidad.
Esa fe descansa en un Principio comprendido. Ese Principio restituye la salud a los enfermos y trae a luz los estados perdurables y armoniosos de las cosas..
The understanding that Life is God, Spirit, lengthens our days by strengthening our trust in the deathless reality of Life, its almightiness and immortality.
This faith relies upon an understood Principle. This Principle makes whole the diseased, and brings out the enduring and harmonious phases of things.
Por la victoria sobre un solo pecado, damos gracias y engrandecemos a Jehová de los Ejércitos. ¿Qué diremos del portentoso triunfo sobre todo pecado? Un cántico más alto, más dulce que jamás haya llegado a los cielos, se eleva ahora más claro y llega más cerca del gran corazón de Cristo; porque el acusador no está allí, y el Amor canta su prístina y perenne melodía.
For victory over a single sin, we give thanks and magnify the Lord of Hosts. What shall we say of the mighty conquest over all sin? A louder song, sweeter than has ever before reached high heaven, now rises clearer and nearer to the great heart of Christ; for the accuser is not there, and Love sends forth her primal and everlasting strain.

Será deber de cada miembro de esta Iglesia orar diariamente: "Venga Tu reino"; haz que el reino de la Verdad, la Vida y el Amor divinos se establezca en mí, y quita de mí todo pecado; ¡y que Tu Palabra fecunde los afectos de toda la humanidad, y los gobierne!
Ni la animosidad ni el mero afecto personal deben impulsar los móviles o actos de los miembros de La Iglesia Madre. En la Ciencia, sólo el Amor divino gobierna al hombre, y el Científico Cristiano refleja la dulce amenidad del Amor al reprender el pecado, al expresar verdadera confraternidad, caridad y perdón. Los miembros de esta Iglesia deben velar y orar diariamente para ser liberados de todo mal, de profetizar, juzgar, condenar, aconsejar, influir o ser influidos erróneamente.
Será deber de todo miembro de esta Iglesia defenderse a diario de toda sugestión mental agresiva, y no dejarse inducir a olvido o negligencia en cuanto a su deber para con Dios, para con su Guía y para con la humanidad. Por sus obras será juzgado, — y justificado o condenado.
