2 Diré yo a Jehová: Esperanza mía, y castillo mío; Mi Dios, en quien confiaré.
3 Él te librará del lazo del cazador, De la peste destructora.
4 Con sus plumas te cubrirá, Y debajo de sus alas estarás seguro; Escudo y adarga es su verdad.
5 No temerás el terror nocturno, Ni saeta que vuele de día;
6 Ni pestilencia que ande en oscuridad, Ni mortandad que en medio del día destruya.
9 Porque has puesto a Jehová, que es mi esperanza, Al Altísimo por tu habitación;

1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until mid-night.
8 And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were gathered together.
9 And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead.

1 Estando ya a salvo, supimos que la isla se llamaba Malta.
2 Y los naturales nos trataron con no poca humanidad; porque encendiendo un fuego, nos recibieron a todos, a causa de la lluvia que caía, y del frío.
3 Entonces, habiendo recogido Pablo algunas ramas secas, las echó al fuego; y una víbora, huyendo del calor, se le prendió en la mano.
4 Cuando los naturales vieron la víbora colgando de su mano, se decían unos a otros: Ciertamente este hombre es homicida, a quien, escapado del mar, la justicia no deja vivir.

1 And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita.
2 And the barbarous people shewed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.
3 And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.
4 And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.
5 And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.

12 Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.
SALVACIÓN. La Vida, la Verdad y el Amor comprendidos y demostrados como supremos sobre todo; el pecado, la enfermedad y la muerte destruidos.
Salvation. Life, Truth, and Love understood and demonstrated as supreme over all; sin, sickness, and death destroyed.
Clamó el apóstol: "He aquí ahora el tiempo aceptable; he aquí ahora el día de salvación" —queriendo decir, no que los hombres tengan que prepararse ahora para la salvación o seguridad en un mundo futuro, sino que ahora es el tiempo de experimentar esa salvación en espíritu y en vida. Ahora es el tiempo para que los llamados dolores y placeres materiales desaparezcan, pues ambos son irreales, por ser imposibles en la Ciencia. Para romper este embeleso terrenal, los mortales tienen que adquirir la verdadera idea y el Principio divino de todo lo que realmente existe y gobierna armoniosamente al universo. Este pensamiento se comprende poco a poco, y el intervalo antes de adquirirlo es acompañado de dudas y derrotas así como de triunfos.
"Now," cried the apostle, "is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation," — meaning, not that now men must prepare for a future-world salvation, or safety, but that now is the time in which to experience that salvation in spirit and in life. Now is the time for so-called material pains and material pleasures to pass away, for both are unreal, because impossible in Science. To break this earthly spell, mortals must get the true idea and divine Principle of all that really exists and governs the universe harmoniously. This thought is apprehended slowly, and the interval before its attainment is attended with doubts and defeats as well as triumphs.
La Biblia contiene la receta para toda curación. "Las hojas del árbol eran para la sanidad de las naciones". Tanto el pecado como la enfermedad se sanan por el mismo Principio. El árbol simboliza al Principio divino del hombre, y ese Principio es suficiente para cualquier emergencia, ofreciendo salvación plena del pecado, la enfermedad y la muerte.
The Bible contains the recipe for all healing. "The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations." Sin and sickness are both healed by the same Principle. The tree is typical of man's divine Principle, which is equal to every emergency, offering full salvation from sin, sickness, and death.
Si oscilamos cual péndulo entre el pecado y la esperanza de perdón —mientras el egoísmo y la sensualidad causan constantes retrocesos— nuestro progreso moral será lento. Al despertar a las exigencias de Cristo, los mortales experimentan sufrimientos. Eso los obliga, como a quienes se están ahogando, a hacer esfuerzos vigorosos por salvarse; y gracias al precioso amor de Cristo, esos esfuerzos son coronados de éxito.
"Ocupaos en vuestra salvación", es la exigencia de la Vida y el Amor, porque para este fin Dios obra con vosotros. "¡Negociad entre tanto que vengo!" Aguardad vuestra recompensa, y "no os canséis de hacer bien". Si vuestros esfuerzos son acosados por dificultades terribles y no recibís recompensa inmediata, no volváis al error, ni corráis con pereza en la carrera.
Vibrating like a pendulum between sin and the hope of forgiveness, — selfishness and sensuality causing constant retrogression, — our moral progress will be slow. Waking to Christ's demand, mortals experience suffering. This causes them, even as drowning men, to make vigorous efforts to save themselves; and through Christ's precious love these efforts are crowned with success.
"Work out your own salvation," is the demand of Life and Love, for to this end God worketh with you. "Occupy till I come!" Wait for your reward, and "be not weary in well doing." If your endeavors are beset by fearful odds, and you receive no present reward, go not back to error, nor become a sluggard in the race.
A la descubridora de la Ciencia Cristiana se le hace menos difícil el camino cuando tiene siempre presente ante sus pensamientos la meta elevada, que cuando cuenta los pasos al esforzarse por alcanzarla. Cuando el objetivo es deseable, la expectativa acelera nuestro progreso. La lucha por la Verdad nos fortalece en lugar de debilitarnos, nos da descanso en vez de fatiga. Si se destruyera completamente la creencia en la muerte y se comprendiera que no hay muerte, eso sería un "árbol de la vida", conocido por sus frutos. El hombre debiera renovar sus energías y esfuerzos y ver la insensatez de la hipocresía, a la vez que se da cuenta de la necesidad de ocuparse en su salvación. Cuando se aprenda que la enfermedad no puede destruir a la vida y que los mortales no se salvan del pecado o de la enfermedad por la muerte, esa comprensión nos despertará a vida nueva. Vencerá tanto el deseo de morir como el pavor a la tumba y destruirá así el gran temor que acosa a la existencia mortal.
The discoverer of Christian Science finds the path less difficult when she has the high goal always before her thoughts, than when she counts her footsteps in endeavoring to reach it. When the destination is desirable, expectation speeds our progress. The struggle for Truth makes one strong instead of weak, resting instead of wearying one. If the belief in death were obliterated, and the understanding obtained that there is no death, this would be a "tree of life," known by its fruits. Man should renew his energies and endeavors, and see the folly of hypocrisy, while also learning the necessity of working out his own salvation. When it is learned that disease cannot destroy life, and that mortals are not saved from sin or sickness by death, this understanding will quicken into newness of life. It will master either a desire to die or a dread of the grave, and thus destroy the great fear that besets mortal existence.
Cuando decís: "El cuerpo del hombre es material", yo digo con Pablo: Desead más bien "estar ausentes del cuerpo, y presentes al Señor". Abandonad vuestra creencia material de que hay mente en la materia, y tened una sola Mente, a saber, Dios; porque esa Mente forma su propia semejanza.
When you say, "Man's body is material," I say with Paul: Be "willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." Give up your material belief of mind in matter, and have but one Mind, even God; for this Mind forms its own likeness.
Mucho queda aún por decir y por hacer, antes que toda la humanidad sea redimida y todos los microbios mentales de pecado y todos los gérmenes de pensamientos enfermizos sean exterminados.

Much yet remains to be said and done before all mankind is saved and all the mental microbes of sin and all diseased thought-germs are exterminated.
But the forever fact remains paramount that Life, Truth, and Love save from sin, disease, and death.
Cuando se presenten los primeros síntomas de enfermedad, combatid el testimonio de los sentidos materiales con la Ciencia divina. Dejad que vuestro concepto superior de justicia destruya el falso proceso de las opiniones mortales que llamáis ley, y entonces no se os recluirá en un cuarto de enfermo ni se os pondrá en un lecho de dolor en pago del último cuadrante, la última pena exigida por el error. "Ponte de acuerdo con tu adversario pronto, entre tanto que estás con él en el camino". No permitáis que ninguna pretensión de pecado o enfermedad se desarrolle en el pensamiento. Desechadla con la constante convicción de que es ilegítima, porque sabéis que Dios no es el autor de la enfermedad, como no lo es del pecado. No tenéis ninguna ley de Dios que apoye la necesidad de pecado o de enfermedad, sino que tenéis autoridad divina para negar esa necesidad y sanar a los enfermos.
When the first symptoms of disease appear, dispute the testimony of the material senses with divine Science. Let your higher sense of justice destroy the false process of mortal opinions which you name law, and then you will not be confined to a sick-room nor laid upon a bed of suffering in payment of the last farthing, the last penalty demanded by error. "Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him." Suffer no claim of sin or of sickness to grow upon the thought. Dismiss it with an abiding conviction that it is illegitimate, because you know that God is no more the author of sickness than He is of sin. You have no law of His to support the necessity either of sin or sickness, but you have divine authority for denying that necessity and healing the sick.
Comprendiendo el dominio que el Amor mantenía sobre todo, Daniel se sintió seguro en el foso de los leones y Pablo probó que la víbora era inofensiva. Todas las criaturas de Dios, moviéndose en la armonía de la Ciencia, son inofensivas, útiles e indestructibles. Understanding the control which Love held over all, Daniel felt safe in the lions' den, and Paul proved the viper to be harmless. All of God's creatures, moving in the harmony of Science, are harmless, useful, indestructible. A realization of this grand verity was a source of strength to the ancient worthies. It supports Christian healing, and enables its possessor to emulate the example of Jesus. "And God saw that it was good."
En lugar de una ciega y dócil sumisión a los estados incipientes o avanzados de enfermedad, levantaos en rebelión contra ellos. Exterminad la creencia de que podáis experimentar un solo dolor intruso que no pueda ser eliminado por el poder de la Mente, y de esa manera podéis evitar el desarrollo del dolor en el cuerpo. No hay ley de Dios que impida ese resultado.
Instead of blind and calm submission to the incipient or advanced stages of disease, rise in rebellion against them. Banish the belief that you can possibly entertain a single intruding pain which cannot be ruled out by the might of Mind, and in this way you can prevent the development of pain in the body. No law of God hinders this result.
El único camino a seguir es tomar una actitud antagónica contra todo lo que se oponga a la salud, la santidad y la armonía del hombre, la imagen de Dios.
Estad de portero a la puerta del pensamiento. Admitiendo sólo las conclusiones que queráis que se realicen en resultados corporales, os gobernaréis armoniosamente. Cuando se presente la condición que según vuestra creencia ocasiona la enfermedad, ya se trate de aire, ejercicio, herencia, contagio o accidente, desempeñad entonces vuestro oficio de portero y cerrad el paso a tales pensamientos y temores malsanos. Excluid de la mente mortal los errores nocivos; entonces el cuerpo no podrá sufrir a causa de ellos. Los resultados de dolor o de placer tienen que provenir de la mente, y como un guardián que abandona su puesto admitimos la creencia intrusa, olvidando que con la ayuda divina podemos prohibirle la entrada.
The only course is to take antagonistic grounds against all that is opposed to the health, holiness, and harmony of man, God's image.
Stand porter at the door of thought. Admitting only such conclusions as you wish realized in bodily results, you will control yourself harmoniously. When the condition is present which you say induces disease, whether it be air, exercise, heredity, contagion, or accident, then perform your office as porter and shut out these unhealthy thoughts and fears. Exclude from mortal mind the offending errors; then the body cannot suffer from them. The issues of pain or pleasure must come through mind, and like a watchman forsaking his post, we admit the intruding belief, forgetting that through divine help we can forbid this entrance.
La Mente tiene dominio sobre los sentidos corporales y puede vencer a la enfermedad, al pecado y a la muerte. Ejerced esa autoridad otorgada por Dios. Tomad posesión de vuestro cuerpo y regid sus sensaciones y funciones. Levantaos en la fuerza del Espíritu para resistir todo lo que sea desemejante al bien. Dios ha hecho al hombre capaz de eso, y nada puede invalidar la capacidad y el poder divinamente otorgados al hombre.
Mind is the master of the corporeal senses, and can conquer sickness, sin, and death. Exercise this God-given authority. Take possession of your body, and govern its feeling and action. Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man.

Será deber de cada miembro de esta Iglesia orar diariamente: "Venga Tu reino"; haz que el reino de la Verdad, la Vida y el Amor divinos se establezca en mí, y quita de mí todo pecado; ¡y que Tu Palabra fecunde los afectos de toda la humanidad, y los gobierne!
Ni la animosidad ni el mero afecto personal deben impulsar los móviles o actos de los miembros de La Iglesia Madre. En la Ciencia, sólo el Amor divino gobierna al hombre, y el Científico Cristiano refleja la dulce amenidad del Amor al reprender el pecado, al expresar verdadera confraternidad, caridad y perdón. Los miembros de esta Iglesia deben velar y orar diariamente para ser liberados de todo mal, de profetizar, juzgar, condenar, aconsejar, influir o ser influidos erróneamente.
Será deber de todo miembro de esta Iglesia defenderse a diario de toda sugestión mental agresiva, y no dejarse inducir a olvido o negligencia en cuanto a su deber para con Dios, para con su Guía y para con la humanidad. Por sus obras será juzgado, — y justificado o condenado.
