8. Que estamos atribulados en todo, mas no angustiados; en apuros, mas no desesperados;
9. Perseguidos, mas no desamparados; derribados, pero no destruidos;
31. ¿Qué, pues, diremos a esto? Si Dios es por nosotros, ¿quién contra nosotros?
35. ¿Quién nos separará del amor de Cristo? ¿Tribulación, o angustia, o persecución, o hambre, o desnudez, o peligro, o espada?
37. Antes, en todas estas cosas somos más que vencedores por medio de aquel que nos amó.
38. Por lo cual estoy seguro de que ni la muerte, ni la vida, ni ángeles, ni principados, ni potestades, ni lo presente, ni lo por venir,
39. Ni lo alto, ni lo profundo, ni ninguna otra cosa creada nos podrá separar del amor de Dios, que es en Cristo Jesús Señor nuestro.
8. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;
9. Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.
31. What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
35. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
37. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39. Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

3 La integridad de los rectos los encaminará;
3 The integrity of the upright shall guide them:
14 Haced todo sin murmuraciones y contiendas,
15 Para que seáis irreprensibles y sencillos, hijos de Dios sin mancha en medio de una generación maligna y perversa, en medio de la cual resplandecéis como luminares en el mundo;
14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
11 … pues he aprendido a contentarme, cualquiera que sea mi situación.
12 Sé vivir humildemente, y sé tener abundancia; en todo y por todo estoy enseñado, así para estar saciado como para tener hambre, así para tener abundancia como para padecer necesidad.
13 Todo lo puedo en Cristo que me fortalece.

12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

2 José, siendo de edad de diecisiete años, apacentaba las ovejas con sus hermanos;
3 Y amaba Israel a José más que a todos sus hijos, porque lo había tenido en su vejez; y le hizo una túnica de diversos colores.
4 Y viendo sus hermanos que su padre lo amaba más que a todos sus hermanos, le aborrecían, y no podían hablarle pacíficamente.
24 Y le tomaron y le echaron en la cisterna;
28 Y cuando pasaban los madianitas mercaderes, sacaron ellos a José de la cisterna, y le trajeron arriba, y le vendieron a los ismaelitas por veinte piezas de plata.
2 Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren;
3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours.
4 And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.
24 And they took him, and cast him into a pit:
28 Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver:
1 Llevado, pues, José a Egipto, Potifar oficial de Faraón, capitán de la guardia, varón egipcio, lo compró de los ismaelitas que lo habían llevado allá.
3 Y vio su amo que Jehová estaba con él, y que todo lo que él hacía, Jehová lo hacía prosperar en su mano.
7 Aconteció después de esto, que la mujer de su amo puso sus ojos en José, y dijo: Duerme conmigo.
8 Y él no quiso,
12 Y ella lo asió por su ropa, diciendo: Duerme conmigo. Entonces él dejó su ropa en las manos de ella, y huyó y salió.
19 … cuando oyó el amo de José las palabras que su mujer le hablaba, diciendo: Así me ha tratado tu siervo, se encendió su furor.
20 Y tomó su amo a José, y lo puso en la cárcel,
21 Pero Jehová estaba con José y le extendió su misericordia, y le dio gracia en los ojos del jefe de la cárcel.
22 Y el jefe de la cárcel entregó en mano de José el cuidado de todos los presos que había en aquella prisión; todo lo que se hacía allí, él lo hacía.
1 And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down thither.
3 And his master saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand.
7 And it came to pass after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.
8 But he refused,
12 And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.
19 …when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled.
20 And Joseph’s master took him, and put him into the prison,
21 But the Lord was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.
22 And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it.
1 Aconteció que pasados dos años tuvo Faraón un sueño.
14 Entonces Faraón envió y llamó a José. Y lo sacaron apresuradamente de la cárcel,
15 Y dijo Faraón a José: Yo he tenido un sueño, y no hay quien lo interprete; mas he oído decir de ti, que oyes sueños para interpretarlos.
16 Respondió José a Faraón, diciendo: No está en mí; Dios será el que dé respuesta propicia a Faraón.
28 Esto es lo que respondo a Faraón. Lo que Dios va a hacer, lo ha mostrado a Faraón.
29 He aquí vienen siete años de gran abundancia en toda la tierra de Egipto.
30 Y tras ellos seguirán siete años de hambre;
33 Por tanto, provéase ahora Faraón de un varón prudente y sabio, y póngalo sobre la tierra de Egipto.
37 El asunto pareció bien a Faraón y a sus siervos,
38 Y dijo Faraón a sus siervos: ¿Acaso hallaremos a otro hombre como éste, en quien esté el espíritu de Dios?
39 Y dijo Faraón a José: Pues que Dios te ha hecho saber todo esto, no hay entendido ni sabio como tú.
40 Tú estarás sobre mi casa, y por tu palabra se gobernará todo mi pueblo; solamente en el trono seré yo mayor que tú.
1 And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed:
14 Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon:
15 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it.
16 And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.
28 This is the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: What God is about to do he sheweth unto Pharaoh.
29 Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt:
30 And there shall arise after them seven years of famine;
33 Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.
37 And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.
38 And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?
39 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:
40 Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.
3 Y descendieron los diez hermanos de José a comprar trigo en Egipto.
7 Y José, vio a sus hermanos,
3 And Joseph’s ten brethren went down to buy corn in Egypt.
7 And Joseph saw his brethren,
4 Entonces dijo José a sus hermanos: Acercaos ahora a mí. Y ellos se acercaron. Y él dijo: Yo soy José vuestro hermano, el que vendisteis para Egipto..
5 Ahora, pues, no os entristezcáis, ni os pese de haberme vendido acá; porque para preservación de vida me envió Dios delante de vosotros.
4 And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt.
5 Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.
19 Porque esto merece aprobación, si alguno a causa de la conciencia delante de Dios, sufre molestias padeciendo injustamente.
20 Pues ¿qué gloria es, si pecando sois abofeteados, y lo soportáis? Mas si haciendo lo bueno sufrís, y lo soportáis, esto ciertamente es aprobado delante de Dios.
21 Pues para esto fuisteis llamados; porque también Cristo padeció por nosotros, dejándonos ejemplo, para que sigáis sus pisadas;
22 El cual no hizo pecado, ni se halló engaño en su boca;
23 Quien cuando le maldecían, no respondía con maldición; cuando padecía, no amenazaba, sino encomendaba la causa al que juzga justamente;
19 For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.
20 For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.
21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:
12 Por tanto, amados míos, como siempre habéis obedecido, no como en mi presencia solamente, sino mucho más ahora en mi ausencia, ocupaos en vuestra salvación con temor y temblor,
13 Porque Dios es el que en vosotros produce así el querer como el hacer, por su buena voluntad.
12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
28 Y sabemos que a los que aman a Dios, todas las cosas les ayudan a bien, esto es, a los que conforme a su propósito son llamados.
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
HOMBRE: La idea espiritual de Dios, individual, perfecta, eterna.
Man: God's spiritual idea, individual, perfect, eternal.
Dios expresa en el hombre la idea infinita, que se desarrolla eternamente, que se amplía y eleva más y más desde una base ilimitada.
El Principio infinito es reflejado por la idea infinita y la individualidad espiritual, pero los llamados sentidos materiales no conocen ni al Principio ni a su idea. Las capacidades humanas se amplían y perfeccionan a medida que la humanidad obtiene el concepto verdadero del hombre y de Dios.
God expresses in man the infinite idea forever developing itself, broadening and rising higher and higher from a boundless basis.
The infinite Principle is reflected by the infinite idea and spiritual individuality, but the material so-called senses have no cognizance of either Principle or its idea. The human capacities are enlarged and perfected in proportion as humanity gains the true conception of man and God.
La Mente divina es el Alma del hombre y da al hombre señorío sobre todas las cosas. El hombre no fue creado partiendo de una base material, ni ordenado a obedecer leyes materiales que el Espíritu nunca hizo; su esfera está en los estatutos espirituales, en la ley superior de la Mente.
The divine Mind is the Soul of man, and gives man dominion over all things. Man was not created from a material basis, nor bidden to obey material laws which Spirit never made; his province is in spiritual statutes, in the higher law of Mind.
Admitir para sí que el hombre es la semejanza misma de Dios, deja al hombre en libertad para abarcar la idea infinita. Esa convicción cierra la puerta a la muerte y la abre de par en par hacia la inmortalidad. La comprensión y el reconocimiento del Espíritu tienen que venir finalmente, y sería mejor que aprovecháramos el tiempo resolviendo los misterios del ser por la comprensión del Principio divino. Al presente no sabemos qué es el hombre, pero ciertamente lo sabremos cuando el hombre refleje a Dios.
The admission to one's self that man is God's own likeness sets man free to master the infinite idea. This conviction shuts the door on death, and opens it wide towards immortality. The understanding and recognition of Spirit must finally come, and we may as well improve our time in solving the mysteries of being through an apprehension of divine Principle. At present we know not what man is, but we certainly shall know this when man reflects God.
La esclavitud del hombre no es lícita. Cesará cuando el hombre tome posesión de su legado de libertad, su dominio otorgado por Dios sobre los sentidos materiales. Algún día los mortales harán valer su propio derecho a la libertad en el nombre de Dios Todopoderoso. Entonces gobernarán sus propios cuerpos por su comprensión de la Ciencia divina. Al abandonar sus creencias presentes, reconocerán que la armonía es la realidad espiritual y que la discordancia es la irrealidad material.
The enslavement of man is not legitimate. It will cease when man enters into his heritage of freedom, his God-given dominion over the material senses. Mortals will some day assert their freedom in the name of Almighty God. Then they will control their own bodies through the understanding of divine Science. Dropping their present beliefs, they will recognize harmony as the spiritual reality and discord as the material unreality.
No podemos sondear la naturaleza y cualidad de la creación de Dios sumergiéndonos en los bajíos de la creencia mortal. Tenemos que dar vuelta a nuestros débiles aleteos —nuestros esfuerzos por encontrar vida y verdad en la materia— y elevarnos por encima del testimonio de los sentidos materiales, por encima de lo mortal, hacia la idea inmortal de Dios. Esas vistas más claras y elevadas inspiran al hombre de cualidades divinas a alcanzar el centro y la circunferencia absolutos de su ser.
We cannot fathom the nature and quality of God's creation by diving into the shallows of mortal belief. We must reverse our feeble flutterings — our efforts to find life and truth in matter — and rise above the testimony of the material senses, above the mortal to the immortal idea of God. These clearer, higher views inspire the Godlike man to reach the absolute centre and circumference of his being.
El Amor divino bendice sus ideas y hace que se multipliquen —que manifiesten Su poder. El hombre no ha sido creado para labrar la tierra. Su patrimonio es señorío, no servidumbre. Señorea sobre la creencia de tierra y cielo y está subordinado sólo a su Hacedor. Eso es la Ciencia del ser.
Divine Love blesses its own ideas, and causes them to multiply, — to manifest His power. Man is not made to till the soil. His birthright is dominion, not subjection. He is lord of the belief in earth and heaven, — himself subordinate alone to his Maker. This is the Science of being.
De algún modo, tarde o temprano, todos tienen que elevarse por encima de la materialidad, y a menudo el sufrimiento es el factor divino en esa elevación. "A los que aman a Dios, todas las cosas les ayudan a bien", es la máxima bíblica.
Paso a paso hallarán los que en Él confían que "Dios es nuestro amparo y fortaleza, nuestro pronto auxilio en las tribulaciones".
In some way, sooner or later, all must rise superior to materiality, and suffering is oft the divine agent in this elevation. "All things work together for good to them that love God," is the dictum of Scripture.
Step by step will those who trust Him find that "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."
"Ocupaos en vuestra salvación", es la exigencia de la Vida y el Amor, porque para este fin Dios obra con vosotros. "¡Negociad entre tanto que vengo!" Aguardad vuestra recompensa, y "no os canséis de hacer bien". Si vuestros esfuerzos son acosados por dificultades terribles y no recibís recompensa inmediata, no volváis al error, ni corráis con pereza en la carrera.
"Work out your own salvation," is the demand of Life and Love, for to this end God worketh with you. "Occupy till I come!" Wait for your reward, and "be not weary in well doing." If your endeavors are beset by fearful odds, and you receive no present reward, go not back to error, nor become a sluggard in the race.
… el yo humano debe evangelizarse. Dios exige que aceptemos esa tarea con amor hoy mismo y que abandonemos lo material tan pronto como sea posible, y nos ocupemos en lo espiritual, lo cual determina lo exterior y verdadero.
…the human self must be evangelized. This task God demands us to accept lovingly to-day, and to abandon so fast as practical the material, and to work out the spiritual which determines the outward and actual.
La Mente divina legítimamente le exige al hombre toda su obediencia, afecto y fuerza. No se hace reserva para lealtad menor alguna. La obediencia a la Verdad le da al hombre poder y fuerza. La sumisión al error resulta en pérdida de poder.
Divine Mind rightly demands man's entire obedience, affection, and strength. No reservation is made for any lesser loyalty. Obedience to Truth gives man power and strength. Submission to error superinduces loss of power.
Fuera de esta Ciencia todo es mudable; mas el hombre inmortal, de acuerdo con el Principio divino de su ser, o sea Dios, no peca, ni sufre, ni muere. Los días de nuestra peregrinación se multiplicarán en lugar de disminuir, cuando el reino de Dios venga en la tierra; porque el camino verdadero conduce a la Vida y no a la muerte, y la experiencia terrenal revela la naturaleza finita del error y las capacidades infinitas de la Verdad, por las cuales Dios da al hombre señorío sobre toda la tierra.
Outside of this Science all is mutable; but immortal man, in accord with the divine Principle of his being, God, neither sins, suffers, nor dies. The days of our pilgrimage will multiply instead of diminish, when God's kingdom comes on earth; for the true way leads to Life instead of to death, and earthly experience discloses the finity of error and the infinite capacities of Truth, in which God gives man dominion over all the earth.
En todo momento, y bajo toda circunstancia, vence con el bien el mal. Conócete a ti mismo, y Dios proveerá la sabiduría y la ocasión para una victoria sobre el mal. Si estás revestido de la panoplia del Amor, el odio humano no puede tocarte.
At all times and under all circumstances, overcome evil with good. Know thyself, and God will supply the wisdom and the occasion for a victory over evil. Clad in the panoply of Love, human hatred cannot reach you.
Cuando desecháis lo antiguo, no debierais temer revestiros de lo nuevo. Vuestro progreso quizás provoque envidia, pero también ganará respeto. Cuando el error os enfrente, no escatiméis ni la reprensión ni la explicación que destruye al error. No respiréis jamás una atmósfera inmoral, excepto al tratar de purificarla.
When outgrowing the old, you should not fear to put on the new. Your advancing course may provoke envy, but it will also attract respect. When error confronts you, withhold not the rebuke or the explanation which destroys error. Never breathe an immoral atmosphere, unless in the attempt to purify it.
Mantened vuestro pensamiento firmemente en lo perdurable, lo bueno y lo verdadero, y los experimentaréis en la medida en que ocupen vuestros pensamientos.
Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts.
El hombre se encamina hacia la dirección en que mira, y donde esté su tesoro, allí estará también su corazón. Si nuestras esperanzas y afectos son espirituales, vienen de lo alto, no de abajo, y, como antaño, dan los frutos del Espíritu.
Man walks in the direction towards which he looks, and where his treasure is, there will his heart be also. If our hopes and affections are spiritual, they come from above, not from beneath, and they bear as of old the fruits of the Spirit.
Si el discípulo está progresando espiritualmente, está esforzándose por entrar. Se aparta constantemente del sentido material y mira hacia las cosas imperecederas del Espíritu. Si es sincero, será diligente desde el comienzo y ganará un poco cada día en la dirección correcta, hasta que al fin acabe su carrera con gozo.
If the disciple is advancing spiritually, he is striving to enter in. He constantly turns away from material sense, and looks towards the imperishable things of Spirit. If honest, he will be in earnest from the start, and gain a little each day in the right direction, till at last he finishes his course with joy.
El bien y el mal, la verdad y el error, lucharán en la mente de los alumnos, hasta que la victoria quede del lado de la verdad invencible.
Right and wrong, truth and error, will be at strife in the minds of students, until victory rests on the side of invincible truth.

Será deber de cada miembro de esta Iglesia orar diariamente: "Venga Tu reino"; haz que el reino de la Verdad, la Vida y el Amor divinos se establezca en mí, y quita de mí todo pecado; ¡y que Tu Palabra fecunde los afectos de toda la humanidad, y los gobierne!
Ni la animosidad ni el mero afecto personal deben impulsar los móviles o actos de los miembros de La Iglesia Madre. En la Ciencia, sólo el Amor divino gobierna al hombre, y el Científico Cristiano refleja la dulce amenidad del Amor al reprender el pecado, al expresar verdadera confraternidad, caridad y perdón. Los miembros de esta Iglesia deben velar y orar diariamente para ser liberados de todo mal, de profetizar, juzgar, condenar, aconsejar, influir o ser influidos erróneamente.
Será deber de todo miembro de esta Iglesia defenderse a diario de toda sugestión mental agresiva, y no dejarse inducir a olvido o negligencia en cuanto a su deber para con Dios, para con su Guía y para con la humanidad. Por sus obras será juzgado, — y justificado o condenado.
