5 Y amarás a Jehová tu Dios de todo tu corazón, y de toda tu alma, y con todas tus fuerzas.
4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:
5 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
14 si se humillare mi pueblo, sobre el cual mi nombre es invocado, y oraren, y buscaren mi rostro, y se convirtieren de sus malos caminos; entonces yo oiré desde los cielos, y perdonaré sus pecados, y sanaré su tierra.
14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
6 De este modo empobrecía Israel en gran manera por causa de Madián; y los hijos de Israel clamaron a Jehová.
11 Gedeón estaba sacudiendo el trigo en el lagar, para esconderlo de los madianitas.
12 Y el ángel de Jehová se le apareció, y le dijo: Jehová está contigo, varón esforzado y valiente.
13 Y Gedeón le respondió: Ah, señor mío, si Jehová está con nosotros, ¿por qué nos ha sobrevenido todo esto?

6 And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the Lord.
11 Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.
12 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him, and said unto him, The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.
13 And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the Lord be with us, why then is all this befallen us?
14 And the Lord looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?
23 And the Lord said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not:
2 Y Jehová dijo a Gedeón: El pueblo que está contigo es mucho para que yo entregue a los madianitas en su mano, no sea que se alabe Israel contra mí, diciendo: Mi mano me ha salvado.
3 Ahora, pues, haz pregonar en oídos del pueblo, diciendo: Quien tema y se estremezca, madrugue y devuélvase desde el monte de Galaad. Y se devolvieron de los del pueblo veintidós mil, y quedaron diez mil.
4 Y Jehová dijo a Gedeón: Aún es mucho el pueblo; llévalos a las aguas, y allí te los probaré;
5 Entonces llevó el pueblo a las aguas;
6 Y fue el número de los que lamieron llevando el agua con la mano a su boca, trescientos hombres;
7 Entonces Jehová dijo a Gedeón: Con estos trescientos hombres que lamieron el agua os salvaré, y entregaré a los madianitas en tus manos;
16 Y repartiendo los trescientos hombres en tres escuadrones, dio a todos ellos trompetas en sus manos, y cántaros vacíos con teas ardiendo dentro de los cántaros.
20 Y los tres escuadrones tocaron las trompetas, y quebrando los cántaros tomaron en la mano izquierda las teas, y en la derecha las trompetas con que tocaban, y gritaron: ¡Por la espada de Jehová y de Gedeón!
21 Y se estuvieron firmes cada uno en su puesto en derredor del campamento; entonces todo el ejército echó a correr dando gritos y huyendo.
2 And the Lord said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.
3 Now therefore go to, proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, Whosoever is fearful and afraid, let him return and depart early from mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and there remained ten thousand.
4 And the Lord said unto Gideon, The people are yet too many; bring them down unto the water, and I will try them for thee there:
5 So he brought down the people unto the water:
6 And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, were three hundred men:
7 And the Lord said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand:
16 And he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a trumpet in every man’s hand, with empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers.
20 And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow withal: and they cried, The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon.
21 And they stood every man in his place round about the camp: and all the host ran, and cried, and fled.
22 Y los israelitas dijeron a Gedeón: Sé nuestro señor, tú, y tu hijo, y tu nieto; pues que nos has librado de mano de Madián.
23 Mas Gedeón respondió: No seré señor sobre vosotros, ni mi hijo os señoreará: Jehová señoreará sobre vosotros.
28 Así fue subyugado Madián delante de los hijos de Israel, y nunca más volvió a levantar cabeza. Y reposó la tierra cuarenta años en los días de Gedeón.
22 Then the men of Israel said unto Gideon, Rule thou over us, both thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son also: for thou hast delivered us from the hand of Midian.
23 And Gideon said unto them, I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you: the Lord shall rule over you.
28 Thus was Midian subdued before the children of Israel, so that they lifted up their heads no more. And the country was in quietness forty years in the days of Gideon.

11 God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.

1 Levántate, resplandece; porque ha venido tu luz, y la gloria de Jehová ha nacido sobre ti.

1 Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.
3 And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.
4 Lift up thine eyes round about, and see:
1 El Espíritu de Jehová el Señor está sobre mí, porque me ungió Jehová; me ha enviado a predicar buenas nuevas a los abatidos, a vendar a los quebrantados de corazón, a publicar libertad a los cautivos, y a los presos apertura de la cárcel;
2 a proclamar el año de la buena voluntad de Jehová, y el día de venganza del Dios nuestro; a consolar a todos los enlutados;
3 a ordenar que a los afligidos de Sion se les dé gloria en lugar de ceniza, óleo de gozo en lugar de luto, manto de alegría en lugar del espíritu angustiado; y serán llamados árboles de justicia, plantío de Jehová, para gloria suya.
1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.
31 Dijo entonces Jesús a los judíos que habían creído en él: Si vosotros permaneciereis en mi palabra, seréis verdaderamente mis discípulos;
32 y conoceréis la verdad, y la verdad os hará libres.
36 Así que, si el Hijo os libertare, seréis verdaderamente libres.
31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
1 Estad, pues, firmes en la libertad con que Cristo nos hizo libres, y no estéis otra vez sujetos al yugo de esclavitud.
13 Porque vosotros, hermanos, a libertad fuisteis llamados; solamente que no uséis la libertad como ocasión para la carne, sino servíos por amor los unos a los otros.
1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
1 Desechando, pues, toda malicia, todo engaño, hipocresía, envidias, y todas las detracciones,
5 vosotros también, como piedras vivas, sed edificados como casa espiritual y sacerdocio santo, para ofrecer sacrificios espirituales aceptables a Dios por medio de Jesucristo.
16 como libres, pero no como los que tienen la libertad como pretexto para hacer lo malo, sino como siervos de Dios.
1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
1 Jehová de los ejércitos está con nosotros; Nuestro refugio es el Dios de Jacob.
1 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.
La Verdad trae los elementos de la libertad. Su estandarte lleva el lema inspirado por el Alma: "La esclavitud está abolida". El poder de Dios libera al cautivo. Ningún poder puede resistir al Amor divino. ¿Qué es ese supuesto poder que se opone a Dios? ¿De dónde viene? ¿Qué es aquello que ata al hombre con cadenas de hierro al pecado, la enfermedad y la muerte? Todo lo que esclavice al hombre es contrario al gobierno divino. La Verdad hace libre al hombre.
Truth brings the elements of liberty. On its banner is the Soul-inspired motto, "Slavery is abolished." The power of God brings deliverance to the captive. No power can withstand divine Love. What is this supposed power, which opposes itself to God? Whence cometh it? What is it that binds man with iron shackles to sin, sickness, and death? Whatever enslaves man is opposed to the divine government. Truth makes man free.
Como nuestra nación, la Ciencia Cristiana tiene su Declaración de Independencia. Dios ha dotado al hombre con derechos inalienables, entre los cuales se encuentran el gobierno de sí mismo, la razón y la conciencia. El hombre se gobierna a sí mismo debidamente sólo cuando está dirigido correctamente y gobernado por su Hacedor, la Verdad y el Amor divinos.
Los derechos del hombre son usurpados cuando alguien interviene en el orden divino, y el transgresor mental incurre en el castigo divino que ese delito merece.
Like our nation, Christian Science has its Declaration of Independence. God has endowed man with inalienable rights, among which are self-government, reason, and conscience. Man is properly self-governed only when he is guided rightly and governed by his Maker, divine Truth and Love.
Man's rights are invaded when the divine order is interfered with, and the mental trespasser incurs the divine penalty due this crime.
La ley de la Mente divina tiene que acabar con la servidumbre humana, o los mortales continuarán sin conocer los derechos inalienables del hombre y sujetos a una esclavitud sin esperanza, porque algunos educadores públicos permiten ignorancia respecto al poder divino —ignorancia que es la base de continua servidumbre y de sufrimiento humano.
Al comprender los derechos del hombre, no podemos dejar de prever el fin de toda opresión. La esclavitud no es el estado legítimo del hombre. Dios creó libre al hombre. Pablo dijo: "Soy libre de nacimiento". Todos los hombres debieran ser libres. "Donde está el Espíritu del Señor, allí hay libertad". El Amor y la Verdad liberan, pero el mal y el error conducen al cautiverio.
The law of the divine Mind must end human bondage, or mortals will continue unaware of man's inalienable rights and in subjection to hopeless slavery, because some public teachers permit an ignorance of divine power, — an ignorance that is the foundation of continued bondage and of human suffering.
Discerning the rights of man, we cannot fail to foresee the doom of all oppression. Slavery is not the legitimate state of man. God made man free. Paul said, "I was free born." All men should be free. "Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." Love and Truth make free, but evil and error lead into captivity.
Contra las creencias funestas de que el error es tan real como la Verdad, que el mal es igual al bien en poder, si no superior, y que la discordancia es tan normal como la armonía, hasta la esperanza de liberarse de la esclavitud de la enfermedad y del pecado tiene poca inspiración para alentar al esfuerzo. Cuando lleguemos a tener más fe en la verdad del ser que en el error, más fe en el Espíritu que en la materia, más fe en vivir que en morir, más fe en Dios que en el hombre, entonces ninguna suposición material podrá impedir que sanemos a los enfermos y destruyamos al error.
Against the fatal beliefs that error is as real as Truth, that evil is equal in power to good if not superior, and that discord is as normal as harmony, even the hope of freedom from the bondage of sickness and sin has little inspiration to nerve endeavor. When we come to have more faith in the truth of being than we have in error, more faith in Spirit than in matter, more faith in living than in dying, more faith in God than in man, then no material suppositions can prevent us from healing the sick and destroying error.
Toda ley de la materia o del cuerpo, que se supone que gobierna al hombre, es anulada y derogada por la ley de la Vida, Dios. No conociendo los derechos que Dios nos ha otorgado, nos sometemos a decretos injustos, y la influencia de la educación refuerza a esa esclavitud. No os dispongáis a aceptar la ilusión de que estáis enfermos o que se está desarrollando alguna enfermedad en vuestro organismo, más de lo que os dispondríais a someteros a una tentación pecaminosa basándoos en que el pecado tiene sus necesidades.
Every law of matter or the body, supposed to govern man, is rendered null and void by the law of Life, God. Ignorant of our God-given rights, we submit to unjust decrees, and the bias of education enforces this slavery. Be no more willing to suffer the illusion that you are sick or that some disease is developing in the system, than you are to yield to a sinful temptation on the ground that sin has its necessities.
¿Quién es el que exige nuestra obediencia? Aquel que, en el lenguaje de las Escrituras, "hace según Su voluntad en el ejército del cielo, y en los habitantes de la tierra, y no hay quien detenga Su mano, y Le diga: ¿Qué haces?"
Who is it that demands our obedience? He who, in the language of Scripture, "doeth according to His will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay His hand, or say unto Him, What doest Thou?"
Cuando comprendamos plenamente nuestra relación con el Divino, no podremos tener ninguna otra Mente que la Suya, ningún otro Amor, sabiduría o Verdad, ningún otro concepto de la Vida, y ninguna consciencia de la existencia del error o de la materia.
El poder de la voluntad humana debiera emplearse únicamente si se subordina a la Verdad; si no, guiará mal al juicio y soltará las propensiones más bajas. Es de la incumbencia del sentido espiritual gobernar al hombre. El pensamiento humano, material y errado, actúa perjudicialmente sobre el cuerpo y por medio de él.
La fuerza de voluntad es capaz de todo mal. Nunca puede sanar al enfermo, porque es la oración del injusto; mientras que el ejercicio de los sentimientos —la esperanza, la fe, el amor— es la oración del justo.
When we fully understand our relation to the Divine, we can have no other Mind but His, — no other Love, wisdom, or Truth, no other sense of Life, and no consciousness of the existence of matter or error.
The power of the human will should be exercised only in subordination to Truth; else it will misguide the judgment and free the lower propensities. It is the province of spiritual sense to govern man. Material, erring, human thought acts injuriously both upon the body and through it.
Will-power is capable of all evil. It can never heal the sick, for it is the prayer of the unrighteous; while the exercise of the sentiments — hope, faith, love — is the prayer of the righteous.
Dios ha erigido una plataforma de derechos humanos más elevada, y la ha erigido sobre reivindicaciones más divinas. Esas reivindicaciones no se expresan por medio de códigos o credos, sino en demostración de "en la tierra paz, buena voluntad para con los hombres". Los códigos humanos, la teología escolástica, la medicina e higiene materiales encadenan a la fe y a la comprensión espiritual. La Ciencia divina rompe esas cadenas y hace valer el derecho natural del hombre de tributar homenaje sólo a su Hacedor.
God has built a higher platform of human rights, and He has built it on diviner claims. These claims are not made through code or creed, but in demonstration of "on earth peace, good-will toward men." Human codes, scholastic theology, material medicine and hygiene, fetter faith and spiritual understanding. Divine Science rends asunder these fetters, and man's birthright of sole allegiance to his Maker asserts itself.
Espero, querido lector, que te estoy guiando a la comprensión de tus derechos divinos, la armonía que es tu legado celestial —que, a medida que leas, comprendas que no hay causa (fuera del sentido errado, mortal y material, que no es poder) capaz de hacer de ti un enfermo o un pecador; y espero que vayas venciendo ese falso sentido. Conociendo la falsedad del supuesto sentido material, puedes hacer valer tu prerrogativa de vencer la creencia en el pecado, la enfermedad o la muerte.
Si crees en el mal y lo practicas a sabiendas, puedes cambiar en seguida tu proceder y obrar bien. La materia no puede oponerse de ningún modo a los esfuerzos justos contra el pecado o la enfermedad, porque la materia es inerte, sin mente. Así también, si crees que estás enfermo, puedes cambiar esa creencia y acción erróneas sin que el cuerpo te lo impida.
No creas en ninguna supuesta necesidad de pecar, enfermar o morir, sabiendo (como debieras saber) que Dios jamás exige obediencia a una llamada ley material, puesto que no existe tal ley. La creencia en el pecado y la muerte es destruida por la ley de Dios, la cual es la ley de la Vida y no de la muerte, de la armonía y no de la discordia, del Espíritu y no de la carne.
I hope, dear reader, I am leading you into the understanding of your divine rights, your heaven-bestowed harmony, — that, as you read, you see there is no cause (outside of erring, mortal, material sense which is not power) able to make you sick or sinful; and I hope that you are conquering this false sense. Knowing the falsity of so-called material sense, you can assert your prerogative to overcome the belief in sin, disease, or death.
If you believe in and practise wrong knowingly, you can at once change your course and do right. Matter can make no opposition to right endeavors against sin or sickness, for matter is inert, mindless. Also, if you believe yourself diseased, you can alter this wrong belief and action without hindrance from the body.
Do not believe in any supposed necessity for sin, disease, or death, knowing (as you ought to know) that God never requires obedience to a so-called material law, for no such law exists. The belief in sin and death is destroyed by the law of God, which is the law of Life instead of death, of harmony instead of discord, of Spirit instead of the flesh.
Los poderes de este mundo lucharán, y ordenarán a sus centinelas que no dejen que la verdad trasponga la guardia hasta que se suscriba a sus sistemas; pero la Ciencia, no hacienda caso a las bayonetas caladas, sigue su marcha. Siempre hay algún tumulto, pero también hay quienes cierran filas alrededor del estandarte de la verdad.
La historia de nuestro país, como toda historia, ilustra el poderío de la Mente y demuestra que el poder humano está proporcionado al modo correcto de pensar que represente. Unas pocas frases inmortales, exhalando la omnipotencia de la justicia divina, han sido poderosas para romper cadenas despóticas y abolir el poste de azotar y el mercado de esclavos; pero la opresión no terminó a causa del derramamiento de sangre, ni salió el soplo de la libertad de la boca del cañón. El Amor es el libertador.
The powers of this world will fight, and will command their sentinels not to let truth pass the guard until it subscribes to their systems; but Science, heeding not the pointed bayonet, marches on. There is always some tumult, but there is a rallying to truth's standard.
The history of our country, like all history, illustrates the might of Mind, and shows human power to be proportionate to its embodiment of right thinking. A few immortal sentences, breathing the omnipotence of divine justice, have been potent to break despotic fetters and abolish the whipping-post and slave market; but oppression neither went down in blood, nor did the breath of freedom come from the cannon's mouth. Love is the liberator.

Será deber de cada miembro de esta Iglesia orar diariamente: "Venga Tu reino"; haz que el reino de la Verdad, la Vida y el Amor divinos se establezca en mí, y quita de mí todo pecado; ¡y que Tu Palabra fecunde los afectos de toda la humanidad, y los gobierne!
Ni la animosidad ni el mero afecto personal deben impulsar los móviles o actos de los miembros de La Iglesia Madre. En la Ciencia, sólo el Amor divino gobierna al hombre, y el Científico Cristiano refleja la dulce amenidad del Amor al reprender el pecado, al expresar verdadera confraternidad, caridad y perdón. Los miembros de esta Iglesia deben velar y orar diariamente para ser liberados de todo mal, de profetizar, juzgar, condenar, aconsejar, influir o ser influidos erróneamente.
Será deber de todo miembro de esta Iglesia defenderse a diario de toda sugestión mental agresiva, y no dejarse inducir a olvido o negligencia en cuanto a su deber para con Dios, para con su Guía y para con la humanidad. Por sus obras será juzgado, — y justificado o condenado.
