17. Mas os ruego, hermanos, que os fijéis en los que causan divisiones y tropiezos en contra de la doctrina que vosotros habéis aprendido, y que os apartéis de ellos.
18. Porque tales personas no sirven a nuestro Señor Jesucristo, sino a sus propios vientres, y con suaves palabras y lisonjas engañan los corazones de los ingenuos.
19. Porque vuestra obediencia ha venido a ser notoria a todos, así que me gozo de vosotros; pero quiero que seáis sabios para el bien, e ingenuos para el mal.
14. Para que ya no seamos niños fluctuantes, llevados por doquiera de todo viento de doctrina, por estratagema de hombres que para engañar emplean con astucia las artimañas del error,
15. Sino que siguiendo la verdad en amor, crezcamos en todo en aquel que es la cabeza, esto es, Cristo,
20. Y el Dios de paz aplastará en breve a Satanás bajo vuestros pies.
17. Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
18. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
19. For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.
14. That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
15. But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.
20. And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly.

16 Amados hermanos míos, no erréis.
17 Toda buena dádiva y todo don perfecto desciende de lo alto, del Padre de las luces, en el cual no hay mudanza, ni sombra de variación.
21 Por lo cual, desechando toda inmundicia y abundancia de malicia, recibid con mansedumbre la palabra implantada, la cual puede salvar vuestras almas.
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
17 Cuando Acab vio a Elías, le dijo: ¿Eres tú el que turbas a Israel?
18 Y él respondió: Yo no he turbado a Israel, sino tú y la casa de tu padre, dejando los mandamientos de Jehová, y siguiendo a los baales.
19 Envía, pues, ahora y congrégame a todo Israel en el monte Carmelo, y los cuatrocientos cincuenta profetas de Baal, y los cuatrocientos profetas de Asera, que comen de la mesa de Jezabel.
21 Y acercándose Elías a todo el pueblo, dijo: ¿Hasta cuándo claudicaréis vosotros entre dos pensamientos? Si Jehová es Dios, seguidle; y si Baal, id en pos de él. Y el pueblo no respondió palabra.
22 Y Elías volvió a decir al pueblo: Sólo yo he quedado profeta de Jehová; mas de los profetas de Baal hay cuatrocientos cincuenta hombres.
23 Dénsenos, pues, dos bueyes, y escojan ellos uno, y córtenlo en pedazos, y pónganlo sobre leña, pero no pongan fuego debajo; y yo prepararé el otro buey, y lo pondré sobre leña, y ningún fuego pondré debajo.
24 Invocad luego vosotros el nombre de vuestros dioses, y yo invocaré el nombre de Jehová; y el Dios que respondiere por medio de fuego, ése sea Dios. Y todo el pueblo respondió, diciendo: Bien dicho.
25 Entonces Elías dijo a los profetas de Baal: Escogeos un buey, y preparadlo vosotros primero, pues que sois los más; e invocad el nombre de vuestros dioses, mas no pongáis fuego debajo.
26 Y ellos tomaron el buey que les fue dado y lo prepararon, e invocaron el nombre de Baal desde la mañana hasta el mediodía, diciendo: ¡Baal, respóndenos! Pero no había voz, ni quien respondiese; entre tanto, ellos andaban saltando cerca del altar que habían hecho.
30 Entonces dijo Elías a todo el pueblo: Acercaos a mí. Y todo el pueblo se le acercó; y él arregló el altar de Jehová que estaba arruinado.
33 Preparó luego la leña, y cortó el buey en pedazos, y lo puso sobre la leña.
34 Y dijo: Llenad cuatro cántaros de agua, y derramadla sobre el holocausto y sobre la leña. Y dijo: Hacedlo otra vez; y otra vez lo hicieron. Dijo aún: Hacedlo la tercera vez; y lo hicieron la tercera vez,
35 De manera que el agua corría alrededor del altar, y también se había llenado de agua la zanja.
36 Cuando llegó la hora de ofrecerse el holocausto, se acercó el profeta Elías y dijo: Jehová Dios de Abraham, de Isaac y de Israel, sea hoy manifiesto que tú eres Dios en Israel, y que yo soy tu siervo, y que por mandato tuyo he hecho todas estas cosas.
38 Entonces cayó fuego de Jehová, y consumió el holocausto, la leña, las piedras y el polvo, y aun lamió el agua que estaba en la zanja.
39 Viéndolo todo el pueblo, se postraron y dijeron: ¡Jehová es el Dios, Jehová es el Dios!
17 And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel?
18 And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father’s house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the Lord, and thou hast followed Baalim.
19 Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebel’s table.
21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.
22 Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the Lord; but Baal’s prophets are four hundred and fifty men.
23 Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under:
24 And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the Lord: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.
25 And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal, Choose you one bullock for yourselves, and dress it first; for ye are many; and call on the name of your gods, but put no fire under.
26 And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered.
30 And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down.
33 And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood.
34 And he said, Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the third time.
35 And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water.
36 And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word.
38 Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The Lord, he is the God; the Lord, he is the God.

3 Nadie os engañe en ninguna manera; porque no vendrá sin que antes venga la apostasía, y se manifieste el hombre de pecado, el hijo de perdición,
4 El cual se opone y se levanta contra todo lo que se llama Dios o es objeto de culto; tanto que se sienta en el templo de Dios como Dios, haciéndose pasar por Dios.
3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
1 Jesús salió del templo y se iba, se acercaron sus discípulos para mostrarle los edificios del templo.
4 Respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Mirad que nadie os engañe.
5 Porque vendrán muchos en mi nombre, diciendo: Yo soy el Cristo; y a muchos engañarán.
6 Y oiréis de guerras y rumores de guerras; mirad que no os turbéis, porque es necesario que todo esto acontezca; pero aún no es el fin.
7 Porque se levantará nación contra nación, y reino contra reino; y habrá pestes, y hambres, y terremotos en diferentes lugares.
10 Muchos tropezarán entonces, y se entregarán unos a otros, y unos a otros se aborrecerán.
11 Y muchos falsos profetas se levantarán, y engañarán a muchos;
12 Y por haberse multiplicado la maldad, el amor de muchos se enfriará.
13 Mas el que persevere hasta el fin, éste será salvo.
14 Y será predicado este evangelio del reino en todo el mundo, para testimonio a todas las naciones; y entonces vendrá el fin.
1 Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.
4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
Toda realidad está en Dios y Su creación, armoniosa y eterna. Lo que Él crea es bueno, y Él hace todo lo que es hecho.
All reality is in God and His creation, harmonious and eternal. That which He creates is good, and He makes all that is made.
Para comprender la realidad y el orden del ser en su Ciencia, tenéis que empezar por reconocer que Dios es el Principio divino de todo lo que realmente existe. El Espíritu, la Vida, la Verdad y el Amor se combinan en uno —y son los nombres bíblicos de Dios. Toda sustancia, inteligencia, sabiduría, existencia, inmortalidad, causa y efecto pertenecen a Dios. Ésos son Sus atributos, las eternas manifestaciones del Principio divino e infinito, el Amor. Ninguna sabiduría es sabia, sino Su sabiduría; ninguna verdad es verdadera, sino la Verdad divina; ningún amor es bello, sino el Amor divino; ninguna vida es Vida, sino la divina; ningún bien existe, sino el bien que Dios concede.
La metafísica divina, según es revelada a la comprensión espiritual, demuestra con claridad que todo es Mente y que la Mente es Dios, omnipotencia, omnipresencia, omnisciencia —es decir, todo poder, toda presencia, toda Ciencia. Por lo tanto, todo es, en realidad, la manifestación de la Mente.
To grasp the reality and order of being in its Science, you must begin by reckoning God as the divine Principle of all that really is. Spirit, Life, Truth, Love, combine as one, — and are the Scriptural names for God. All substance, intelligence, wisdom, being, immortality, cause, and effect belong to God. These are His attributes, the eternal manifestations of the infinite divine Principle, Love. No wisdom is wise but His wisdom; no truth is true, no love is lovely, no life is Life but the divine; no good is, but the good God bestows.
Divine metaphysics, as revealed to spiritual understanding, shows clearly that all is Mind, and that Mind is God, omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience, — that is, all power, all presence, all Science. Hence all is in reality the manifestation of Mind.
La materia y sus pretensiones de pecado, enfermedad y muerte son contrarias a Dios y no pueden emanar de Él. No existe verdad material. Los sentidos físicos no pueden tener conocimiento de Dios y de la Verdad espiritual. La creencia humana ha buscado muchas invenciones pero ninguna de ellas puede resolver el problema del ser sin el Principio divino de la Ciencia divina. Las deducciones de hipótesis materiales no son científicas. Difieren de la Ciencia verdadera, porque no se basan en la ley divina.
La Ciencia muestra que las opiniones y creencias mortales y materiales contradictorias emiten los efectos del error en todo momento; pero esa atmósfera de la mente mortal no puede destruir la moral y la salud, cuando se combate pronta y persistentemente con la Ciencia Cristiana. La Verdad y el Amor son un antídoto contra ese miasma mental y así vigorizan y sostienen la existencia. El conocimiento innecesario que se obtiene de los cinco sentidos es sólo temporal —la concepción de la mente mortal, el producto de los sentidos, no del Alma, el Espíritu— y simboliza todo lo que es malo y perecedero. Las ciencias naturales, como usualmente se las llama, realmente no son naturales ni científicas, porque se deducen del testimonio de los sentidos materiales.
Matter and its claims of sin, sickness, and death are contrary to God, and cannot emanate from Him. There is no material truth. The physical senses can take no cognizance of God and spiritual Truth. Human belief has sought out many inventions, but not one of them can solve the problem of being without the divine Principle of divine Science. Deductions from material hypotheses are not scientific. They differ from real Science because they are not based on the divine law.
Science shows that material, conflicting mortal opinions and beliefs emit the effects of error at all times, but this atmosphere of mortal mind cannot be destructive to morals and health when it is opposed promptly and persistently by Christian Science. Truth and Love antidote this mental miasma, and thus invigorate and sustain existence. Unnecessary knowledge gained from the five senses is only temporal, — the conception of mortal mind, the offspring of sense, not of Soul, Spirit, — and symbolizes all that is evil and perishable. Natural science, as it is commonly called, is not really natural nor scientific, because it is deduced from the evidence of the material senses.
Los antiguos cristianos eran sanadores. ¿Por qué se habrá perdido ese elemento del cristianismo? Porque nuestros sistemas de religión están más o menos dominados por nuestros sistemas de medicina. La primera idolatría fue fe en la materia. Las escuelas han puesto en boga la fe en los medicamentos más bien que fe en la Deidad. Al confiar en la materia para destruir la discordia que ella misma ha creado, se ha sacrificado a la salud y a la armonía. Tales sistemas carecen de la vitalidad del poder espiritual, por el cual el sentido material se convierte en siervo de la Ciencia y la religión adquiere el espíritu de Cristo.
The ancient Christians were healers. Why has this element of Christianity been lost? Because our systems of religion are governed more or less by our systems of medicine. The first idolatry was faith in matter. The schools have rendered faith in drugs the fashion, rather than faith in Deity. By trusting matter to destroy its own discord, health and harmony have been sacrificed. Such systems are barren of the vitality of spiritual power, by which material sense is made the servant of Science and religion becomes Christlike.
La mente mortal se ignora a sí misma; si no, jamás podría engañarse a sí misma. Si la mente mortal supiera cómo ser mejor, sería mejor. Puesto que tiene que creer en algo fuera de sí misma, entroniza a la materia como deidad. La mente humana ha sido idólatra desde el comienzo, teniendo otros dioses y creyendo que hay algo más que la Mente única.
Como los mortales no comprenden ni siquiera la existencia mortal, cuánto mayor será su ignorancia acerca de la Mente omnisapiente y de Sus creaciones.
Aquí podéis ver cómo el llamado sentido material crea sus propias formas de pensamiento, les da nombres materiales y luego las adora y las teme. Con ceguedad pagana, le atribuye a algún dios material o medicina material una aptitud superior a la de él mismo. Las creencias de la mente humana la roban y esclavizan y luego atribuyen ese resultado a otra personificación ilusoria, llamada Satanás.
Mortal mind is ignorant of self, or it could never be self-deceived. If mortal mind knew how to be better, it would be better. Since it must believe in something besides itself, it enthrones matter as deity. The human mind has been an idolater from the beginning, having other gods and believing in more than the one Mind.
As mortals do not comprehend even mortal existence, how ignorant must they be of the all-knowing Mind and of His creations.
Here you may see how so-called material sense creates its own forms of thought, gives them material names, and then worships and fears them. With pagan blindness, it attributes to some material god or medicine an ability beyond itself. The beliefs of the human mind rob and enslave it, and then impute this result to another illusive personification, named Satan.
El mahometano cree que debe hacer una peregrinación a la Meca para salvar su alma. El médico común cree en su receta, y el farmacéutico cree en el poder de sus medicamentos para salvar la vida de un hombre. La creencia del mahometano es una ilusión religiosa, la del médico y del farmacéutico es una equivocación médica.
The Mohammedan believes in a pilgrimage to Mecca for the salvation of his soul. The popular doctor believes in his prescription, and the pharmacist believes in the power of his drugs to save a man's life. The Mohammedan's belief is a religious delusion; the doctor's and pharmacist's is a medical mistake.
En un mundo de pecado y sensualidad que se apresura hacia un desarrollo mayor de poder, es sabio considerar seriamente si es la mente humana o la Mente divina la que nos está influyendo. Lo que los profetas de Jehová hicieron, los adoradores de Baal no lo lograron; sin embargo, el artificio y el engaño pretendieron que podían igualar la obra de la sabiduría.
In a world of sin and sensuality hastening to a greater development of power, it is wise earnestly to consider whether it is the human mind or the divine Mind which is influencing one. What the prophets of Jehovah did, the worshippers of Baal failed to do; yet artifice and delusion claimed that they could equal the work of wisdom.
Cuando el hombre mortal una sus pensamientos de la existencia con lo espiritual y trabaje únicamente como Dios trabaja, ya no andará a tientas en las tinieblas, ni se apegará a la tierra por no haber saboreado al cielo. Las creencias carnales nos defraudan. Hacen del hombre un hipócrita involuntario —que produce el mal cuando quisiera crear el bien, que forma deformidades cuando quisiera diseñar gracia y belleza y que perjudica a quienes quisiera bendecir. Viene a ser, en general, un mal creador, que cree que es un semidiós. Su "contacto torna la esperanza en polvo, el polvo que todos hemos hollado". En lenguaje bíblico podría decir: "No hago el bien que quiero, sino el mal que no quiero, eso hago".
When mortal man blends his thoughts of existence with the spiritual and works only as God works, he will no longer grope in the dark and cling to earth because he has not tasted heaven. Carnal beliefs defraud us. They make man an involuntary hypocrite, — producing evil when he would create good, forming deformity when he would outline grace and beauty, injuring those whom he would bless. He becomes a general mis-creator, who believes he is a semi-god. His "touch turns hope to dust, the dust we all have trod." He might say in Bible language: "The good that I would, I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do."
Domináis la situación si entendéis que la existencia mortal es un estado de autoengaño y no la verdad del ser. La mente mortal está produciendo constantemente en el cuerpo mortal los resultados de opiniones falsas; y continuará haciéndolo, hasta que el error mortal sea privado de sus poderes imaginarios por la Verdad, la cual barre la telaraña de ilusión mortal.
You command the situation if you understand that mortal existence is a state of self-deception and not the truth of being. Mortal mind is constantly producing on mortal body the results of false opinions; and it will continue to do so, until mortal error is deprived of its imaginary powers by Truth, which sweeps away the gossamer web of mortal illusion.
Cuando las falsas creencias humanas se enteran, aun en grado mínimo, de que son falsas, empiezan a desaparecer. Un conocimiento del error y sus procedimientos debe preceder a la comprensión de la Verdad que destruye al error, hasta que todo el error mortal y material finalmente desaparezca y se comprenda y reconozca el hecho eterno de que el hombre creado por el Espíritu y del Espíritu es la verdadera semejanza de su Hacedor.
When false human beliefs learn even a little of their own falsity, they begin to disappear. A knowledge of error and of its operations must precede that understanding of Truth which destroys error, until the entire mortal, material error finally disappears, and the eternal verity, man created by and of Spirit, is understood and recognized as the true likeness of his Maker.

Será deber de cada miembro de esta Iglesia orar diariamente: "Venga Tu reino"; haz que el reino de la Verdad, la Vida y el Amor divinos se establezca en mí, y quita de mí todo pecado; ¡y que Tu Palabra fecunde los afectos de toda la humanidad, y los gobierne!
Ni la animosidad ni el mero afecto personal deben impulsar los móviles o actos de los miembros de La Iglesia Madre. En la Ciencia, sólo el Amor divino gobierna al hombre, y el Científico Cristiano refleja la dulce amenidad del Amor al reprender el pecado, al expresar verdadera confraternidad, caridad y perdón. Los miembros de esta Iglesia deben velar y orar diariamente para ser liberados de todo mal, de profetizar, juzgar, condenar, aconsejar, influir o ser influidos erróneamente.
Será deber de todo miembro de esta Iglesia defenderse a diario de toda sugestión mental agresiva, y no dejarse inducir a olvido o negligencia en cuanto a su deber para con Dios, para con su Guía y para con la humanidad. Por sus obras será juzgado, — y justificado o condenado.
