16 El Espíritu mismo da testimonio a nuestro espíritu, de que somos hijos de Dios:
17 Y si hijos, también herederos; herederos de Dios y coherederos con Cristo;
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ;
1 Entonces Elías tisbita, que era de los moradores de Galaad, dijo a Acab: Vive Jehová Dios de Israel, en cuya presencia estoy, que no habrá lluvia ni rocío en estos años, sino por mi palabra.
2 Y vino a él palabra de Jehová, diciendo,
3 Apártate de aquí, y vuélvete al oriente, y escóndete en el arroyo de Querit, que está frente al Jordán.
4 Beberás del arroyo; y yo he mandado a los cuervos que te den allí de comer.
5 Y él fue e hizo conforme a la palabra de Jehová:
6 Y los cuervos le traían pan y carne por la mañana, y pan y carne por la tarde; y bebía del arroyo.
8 Vino luego a él palabra de Jehová, diciendo,
9 Levántate, vete a Sarepta de Sidón, y mora allí; he aquí yo he dado orden allí a una mujer viuda que te sustente.
10 Entonces él se levantó y se fue a Sarepta. Y cuando llegó a la puerta de la ciudad, he aquí una mujer viuda que estaba allí recogiendo leña; y él la llamó, y le dijo: Te ruego que me traigas un poco de agua en un vaso, para que beba.
11 Y yendo ella para traérsela, él la volvió a llamar, y le dijo: Te ruego que me traigas también un bocado de pan en tu mano.
12 Y ella respondió: Vive Jehová tu Dios, que no tengo pan cocido; solamente un puñado de harina tengo en la tinaja, y un poco de aceite en una vasija; y ahora recogía dos leños, para entrar y prepararlo para mí y para mi hijo, para que lo comamos, y nos dejemos morir.
13 Elías le dijo: No tengas temor;
14 Porque Jehová Dios de Israel ha dicho así: La harina de la tinaja no escaseará, ni el aceite de la vasija disminuirá, hasta el día en que Jehová haga llover sobre la faz de la tierra.
15 Entonces ella fue e hizo como le dijo Elías; y comió él, y ella, y su casa, muchos días.
16 Y la harina de la tinaja no escaseó, ni el aceite de la vasija menguó, conforme a la palabra que Jehová había dicho por Elías.
17 Después de estas cosas aconteció que cayó enfermo el hijo del ama de la casa; y la enfermedad fue tan grave que no quedó en él aliento.
19 Él le dijo: Dame acá tu hijo. Entonces él lo tomó de su regazo, y lo llevó al aposento donde él estaba, y lo puso sobre su cama.
20 Y clamando a Jehová, dijo,
21 Jehová Dios mío, te ruego que hagas volver el alma de este niño a él.
22 Y Jehová oyó la voz de Elías, y el alma del niño volvió a él, y revivió.
23 Tomando luego Elías al niño, lo trajo del aposento a la casa, y lo dio a su madre, y le dijo Elías: Mira, tu hijo vive.
24 Entonces la mujer dijo a Elías: Ahora conozco que tú eres varón de Dios, y que la palabra de Jehová es verdad en tu boca.
1 And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
2 And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
3 Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
4 And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.
5 So he went and did according unto the word of the Lord:
6 And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.
8 And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.
10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.
12 And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not;
14 For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.
15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.
16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by Elijah.
17 And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.
19 And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.
20 And he cried unto the Lord, and said,
21 O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come into him again.
22 And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.
23 And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.
24 And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in thy mouth is truth.
1 Aconteció que cuando quiso Jehová alzar a Elías en un torbellino al cielo, Elías venía con Eliseo de Gilgal.
2 Y dijo Elías a Eliseo: Quédate ahora aquí, porque Jehová me ha enviado a Bet-el. Y Eliseo dijo: Vive Jehová, y vive tu alma, que no te dejaré. Descendieron, pues, a Bet-el.
4 Y Elías le volvió a decir: Eliseo, quédate aquí ahora, porque Jehová me ha enviado a Jericó. Y él dijo: Vive Jehová, y vive tu alma, que no te dejaré. Vinieron, pues, a Jericó.
6 Y Elías le dijo: Te ruego que te quedes aquí, porque Jehová me ha enviado al Jordán. Y él dijo: Vive Jehová, y vive tu alma, que no te dejaré. Fueron, pues, ambos.
7 Y vinieron cincuenta varones de los hijos de los profetas, y se pararon delante a lo lejos; y ellos dos se pararon junto al Jordán.
8 Tomando entonces Elías su manto, lo dobló, y golpeó las aguas, las cuales se apartaron a uno y a otro lado, y pasaron ambos por lo seco.
9 Cuando habían pasado, Elías dijo a Eliseo: Pide lo que quieras que haga por ti, antes que yo sea quitado de ti. Y dijo Eliseo: Te ruego que una doble porción de tu espíritu sea sobre mí.
10 Él le dijo: Cosa difícil has pedido. Si me vieres cuando fuere quitado de ti, te será hecho así; mas si no, no.
11 Y aconteció que yendo ellos y hablando, he aquí un carro de fuego con caballos de fuego apartó a los dos; y Elías subió al cielo en un torbellino.
12 Viéndolo Eliseo, clamaba: ¡Padre mío, padre mío, carro de Israel y su gente de a caballo! Y nunca más le vio; y tomando sus vestidos, los rompió en dos partes:
1 And it came to pass, when the Lord would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.
2 And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the Lord hath sent me to Beth-el. And Elisha said unto him, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Beth-el.
4 And Elijah said unto him, Elisha, tarry here, I pray thee; for the Lord hath sent me to Jericho. And he said, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho.
6 And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the Lord hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on.
7 And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Jordan.
8 And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.
9 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.
11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
12 And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more:
1 Mirad cuál amor nos ha dado el Padre, para que seamos llamados hijos de Dios; por esto el mundo no nos conoce, porque no le conoció a él.
2 Amados, ahora somos hijos de Dios, y aún no se ha manifestado lo que hemos de ser; pero sabemos que cuando él se manifieste, seremos semejantes a él, porque le veremos tal como él es.
3 Y todo aquel que tiene esta esperanza en él, se purifica a sí mismo, así como él es puro.
1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
… el hombre es inmortal y vive por autoridad divina.
…man is immortal and lives by divine authority.
Padre-Madre es el nombre de la Deidad que indica Su tierna relación con Su creación espiritual. Como el apóstol lo expresó en palabras de un poeta clásico que citó en aprobación: "Porque linaje Suyo somos".
Father-Mother is the name for Deity, which indicates His tender relationship to His spiritual creation. As the apostle expressed it in words which he quoted with approbation from a classic poet: "For we are also His offspring."
En la Ciencia el hombre es linaje del Espíritu. Lo bello, lo bueno y lo puro constituyen su ascendencia. Su origen no está, como el de los mortales, en el instinto bruto, ni pasa él por condiciones materiales antes de alcanzar la inteligencia. El Espíritu es la fuente primitiva y última de su ser; Dios es su Padre, y la Vida es la ley de su existencia.
In Science man is the offspring of Spirit. The beautiful, good, and pure constitute his ancestry. His origin is not, like that of mortals, in brute instinct, nor does he pass through material conditions prior to reaching intelligence. Spirit is his primitive and ultimate source of being; God is his Father, and Life is the law of his being.
Los profetas de antaño estaban a la espera de algo superior a los sistemas de su época;
El orgullo del sacerdocio es el príncipe de este mundo. No tiene nada en Cristo. La humildad y la caridad tienen autoridad divina. Los mortales piensan perversamente; por consiguiente son perversos. Tienen pensamientos enfermizos, y por eso se enferman. Si el pecado hace pecadores, sólo la Verdad y el Amor pueden hacer que no lo sean. Si una sensación de malestar produce sufrimiento y una sensación de bienestar es un antídoto contra el sufrimiento, la enfermedad es mental, no material. De ahí el hecho de que sólo la mente humana sufra y esté enferma, y que sólo la Mente divina cure.
The prophets of old looked for something higher than the systems of their times;
The pride of priesthood is the prince of this world. It has nothing in Christ. Meekness and charity have divine authority. Mortals think wickedly; consequently they are wicked. They think sickly thoughts, and so become sick. If sin makes sinners, Truth and Love alone can unmake them. If a sense of disease produces suffering and a sense of ease antidotes suffering, disease is mental, not material. Hence the fact that the human mind alone suffers, is sick, and that the divine Mind alone heals.
El hombre es más que una forma material con una mente adentro que tiene que escapar de su ambiente para ser inmortal. El hombre refleja infinitud, y ese reflejo es la idea verdadera de Dios.
Dios expresa en el hombre la idea infinita, que se desarrolla eternamente, que se amplía y eleva más y más desde una base ilimitada.
Man is more than a material form with a mind inside, which must escape from its environments in order to be immortal. Man reflects infinity, and this reflection is the true idea of God.
God expresses in man the infinite idea forever developing itself, broadening and rising higher and higher from a boundless basis.
La Mente divina mantiene todas las identidades, desde una brizna de hierba hasta una estrella, distintas y eternas. Las preguntas son: ¿Cuáles son las identidades de Dios? ¿Qué es el Alma? ¿Existe vida o alma en la cosa formada?
Nada es real y eterno —nada es Espíritu— sino Dios y Su idea.
The divine Mind maintains all identities, from a blade of grass to a star, as distinct and eternal. The questions are: What are God's identities? What is Soul? Does life or soul exist in the thing formed?
Nothing is real and eternal, — nothing is Spirit, — but God and His idea.
El camino por el cual se aprende a conocer la inmortalidad y la vida, no es eclesiástico sino cristiano, no es humano sino divino, no es físico sino metafísico, no es material sino científicamente espiritual.
The way through which immortality and life are learned is not ecclesiastical but Christian, not human but divine, not physical but metaphysical, not material but scientifically spiritual.
La existencia mortal es un enigma. Cada día es un misterio. El testimonio de los sentidos corporales no puede indicarnos qué es lo real y qué es lo ilusorio,
Mortal existence is an enigma. Every day is a mystery. The testimony of the corporeal senses cannot inform us what is real and what is delusive,
El falso testimonio del sentido material contrasta notablemente con el testimonio del Espíritu. El sentido material levanta su voz con la arrogancia de realidad y dice:
Soy enteramente fraudulento y nadie lo sabe. Puedo engañar, mentir, cometer adulterio, robar, asesinar, y con lisonjera villanía evito que se me descubra. Teniendo propensiones animales, sentimientos engañosos e intenciones solapadas, pienso hacer de mi corta vida un día de gala. ¡Qué cosa tan bonita es el pecado! ¡Cómo triunfa el pecado, donde el buen propósito tiene que esperar! El mundo es mi reino. Estoy entronizado en el esplendor de la materia. Pero un toque, un accidente, la ley de Dios, puede en cualquier momento aniquilar mi paz, porque todos mis goces imaginarios son funestos. Cual lava que explota me dilato, sólo para mi desesperación, y brillo con el resplandor de fuego consumidor.
El Espíritu, dando testimonio opuesto, dice:
Yo soy el Espíritu. El hombre, cuyos sentidos son esprituales, es mi semejanza. Él refleja la comprensión infinita, porque Yo soy la Infinitud. La hermosura de la santidad, la perfección del ser, la gloria imperecedera —todas son Mías, porque Yo soy Dios. Yo doy inmortalidad al hombre, porque Yo soy Verdad. Incluyo e imparto toda felicidad, porque Yo soy Amor. Doy vida sin comienzo ni fin, porque Yo soy Vida. Soy supremo y lo doy todo, porque Yo soy Mente. Soy la sustancia de todo, porque YO SOY EL QUE SOY.
The false evidence of material sense contrasts strikingly with the testimony of Spirit. Material sense lifts its voice with the arrogance of reality and says:
I am wholly dishonest, and no man knoweth it. I can cheat, lie, commit adultery, rob, murder, and I elude detection by smooth-tongued villainy. Animal in propensity, deceitful in sentiment, fraudulent in purpose, I mean to make my short span of life one gala day. What a nice thing is sin! How sin succeeds, where the good purpose waits! The world is my kingdom. I am enthroned in the gorgeousness of matter. But a touch, an accident, the law of God, may at any moment annihilate my peace, for all my fancied joys are fatal. Like bursting lava, I expand but to my own despair, and shine with the resplendency of consuming fire.
Spirit, bearing opposite testimony, saith:
I am Spirit. Man, whose senses are spiritual, is my likeness. He reflects the infinite understanding, for I am Infinity. The beauty of holiness, the perfection of being, imperishable glory, — all are Mine, for I am God. I give immortality to man, for I am Truth. I include and impart all bliss, for I am Love. I give life, without beginning and without end, for I am Life. I am supreme and give all, for I am Mind. I am the substance of all, because I am that I am.
La comprensión de que la Vida es Dios, el Espíritu, prolonga nuestros días, pues fortalece nuestra confianza en la realidad imperecedera de la Vida, su omnipotencia e inmortalidad.
Esa fe descansa en un Principio comprendido. Ese Principio restituye la salud a los enfermos y trae a luz los estados perdurables y armoniosos de las cosas. El resultado de nuestras enseñanzas es suficiente para confirmarlas. Cuando en virtud de esas instrucciones puede uno destruir una dolencia grave, la curación demuestra que uno comprende esa enseñanza, y, por lo tanto, recibe la bendición de la Verdad.
The understanding that Life is God, Spirit, lengthens our days by strengthening our trust in the deathless reality of Life, its almightiness and immortality.
This faith relies upon an understood Principle. This Principle makes whole the diseased, and brings out the enduring and harmonious phases of things. The result of our teachings is their sufficient confirmation. When, on the strength of these instructions, you are able to banish a severe malady, the cure shows that you understand this teaching, and therefore you receive the blessing of Truth.
La idea inmortal de la Verdad recorre los siglos, cobijando bajo sus alas a enfermos y pecadores. Mi esperanza cansada trata de ver la realización de ese día feliz en que el hombre reconocerá la Ciencia del Cristo y amará a su prójimo como a sí mismo —en que comprenderá la omnipotencia de Dios y el poder sanador del Amor divino en lo que ha hecho y está haciendo por la humanidad. Las promesas se cumplirán. La hora de la reaparición de la curación divina se presenta en todo tiempo; y quienquiera que ponga su todo terrenal sobre el altar de la Ciencia divina, bebe ahora de la copa del Cristo y es dotado del espíritu y del poder de la curación cristiana.
Truth's immortal idea is sweeping down the centuries, gathering beneath its wings the sick and sinning. My weary hope tries to realize that happy day, when man shall recognize the Science of Christ and love his neighbor as himself, — when he shall realize God's omnipotence and the healing power of the divine Love in what it has done and is doing for mankind. The promises will be fulfilled. The time for the reappearing of the divine healing is throughout all time; and whosoever layeth his earthly all on the altar of divine Science, drinketh of Christ's cup now, and is endued with the spirit and power of Christian healing.
Pregunta. — ¿Cuál es la declaración científica del ser? Respuesta. — No hay vida, verdad, inteligencia ni sustancia en la materia. Todo es Mente infinita y su manifestación infinita, porque Dios es Todo-en-todo. El Espíritu es Verdad inmortal; la materia es error mortal. Question. — What is the scientific statement of being?
Answer. — There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all. Spirit is immortal Truth; matter is mortal error. Spirit is the real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal. Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual.

Será deber de cada miembro de esta Iglesia orar diariamente: "Venga Tu reino"; haz que el reino de la Verdad, la Vida y el Amor divinos se establezca en mí, y quita de mí todo pecado; ¡y que Tu Palabra fecunde los afectos de toda la humanidad, y los gobierne!
Ni la animosidad ni el mero afecto personal deben impulsar los móviles o actos de los miembros de La Iglesia Madre. En la Ciencia, sólo el Amor divino gobierna al hombre, y el Científico Cristiano refleja la dulce amenidad del Amor al reprender el pecado, al expresar verdadera confraternidad, caridad y perdón. Los miembros de esta Iglesia deben velar y orar diariamente para ser liberados de todo mal, de profetizar, juzgar, condenar, aconsejar, influir o ser influidos erróneamente.
Será deber de todo miembro de esta Iglesia defenderse a diario de toda sugestión mental agresiva, y no dejarse inducir a olvido o negligencia en cuanto a su deber para con Dios, para con su Guía y para con la humanidad. Por sus obras será juzgado, — y justificado o condenado.
