17. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

12 Ahora, pues, Israel, ¿qué pide Jehová tu Dios de ti, sino que temas a Jehová tu Dios, que andes en todos sus caminos, y que lo ames, y sirvas a Jehová tu Dios con todo tu corazón y con toda tu alma,
13 que guardes los mandamientos de Jehová y sus estatutos, que yo te prescribo hoy, para que tengas prosperidad?
12 And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,
13 To keep the commandments of the Lord, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?
11 Enséñame, oh Jehová, tu camino; caminaré yo en tu verdad; Afirma mi corazón para que tema tu nombre.

11 Teach me thy way, O Lord; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.

17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

8 Bienaventurados los de limpio corazón, porque ellos verán a Dios.
16 Así alumbre vuestra luz delante de los hombres, para que vean vuestras buenas obras, y glorifiquen a vuestro Padre que está en los cielos.
17 No penséis que he venido para abrogar la ley o los profetas; no he venido para abrogar, sino para cumplir.
18 Porque de cierto os digo que hasta que pasen el cielo y la tierra, ni una jota ni una tilde pasará de la ley, hasta que todo se haya cumplido.
19 De manera que cualquiera que quebrante uno de estos mandamientos muy pequeños, y así enseñe a los hombres, muy pequeño será llamado en el reino de los cielos; mas cualquiera que los haga y los enseñe, este será llamado grande en el reino de los cielos.
20 Porque os digo que si vuestra justicia no fuere mayor que la de los escribas y fariseos, no entraréis en el reino de los cielos.
1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
16 Entonces vino uno y le dijo: Maestro bueno, ¿qué bien haré para tener la vida eterna?
17 Él le dijo: ¿Por qué me llamas bueno? Ninguno hay bueno sino uno: Dios. Mas si quieres entrar en la vida, guarda los mandamientos.
18 Le dijo: ¿Cuáles? Y Jesús dijo: No matarás. No adulterarás. No hurtarás. No dirás falso testimonio,
19 Honra a tu padre y a tu madre; y, Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.
20 El joven le dijo: Todo esto lo he guardado desde mi juventud. ¿Qué más me falta?
21 Jesús le dijo: Si quieres ser perfecto, anda, vende lo que tienes, y dalo a los pobres, y tendrás tesoro en el cielo; y ven y sígueme.
22 Oyendo el joven esta palabra, se fue triste, porque tenía muchas posesiones.
23 Entonces Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: De cierto os digo, que difícilmente entrará un rico en el reino de los cielos.
24 Otra vez os digo, que es más fácil pasar un camello por el ojo de una aguja, que entrar un rico en el reino de Dios.
25 Sus discípulos, oyendo esto, se asombraron en gran manera, diciendo: ¿Quién, pues, podrá ser salvo?
26 Y mirándolos Jesús, les dijo: Para los hombres esto es imposible; mas para Dios todo es posible.
27 Entonces respondiendo Pedro, le dijo: He aquí, nosotros lo hemos dejado todo, y te hemos seguido; ¿qué, pues, tendremos?
28 Y Jesús les dijo: De cierto os digo que en la regeneración, cuando el Hijo del Hombre se siente en el trono de su gloria, vosotros que me habéis seguido también os sentaréis sobre doce tronos, para juzgar a las doce tribus de Israel.
29 Y cualquiera que haya dejado casas, o hermanos, o hermanas, o padre, o madre, o mujer, o hijos, o tierras, por mi nombre, recibirá cien veces más, y heredará la vida eterna.
30 Pero muchos primeros serán postreros, y postreros, primeros.
16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,
19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
20 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?
21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
23 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.
24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
25 When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?
26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
27 Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore?
28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
29 And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.
30 But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.
17 El primer día de la fiesta de los panes sin levadura, vinieron los discípulos a Jesús, diciéndole: ¿Dónde quieres que preparemos para que comas la pascua?
18 Y él dijo: Id a la ciudad a cierto hombre, y decidle: El Maestro dice: Mi tiempo está cerca; en tu casa celebraré la pascua con mis discípulos.
19 Y los discípulos hicieron como Jesús les mandó, y prepararon la pascua.
20 Cuando llegó la noche, se sentó a la mesa con los doce.
26 Y mientras comían, tomó Jesús el pan, y bendijo, y lo partió, y dio a sus discípulos, y dijo: Tomad, comed; esto es mi cuerpo.
27 Y tomando la copa, y habiendo dado gracias, les dio, diciendo: Bebed de ella todos;
29 Y os digo que desde ahora no beberé más de este fruto de la vid, hasta aquel día en que lo beba nuevo con vosotros en el reino de mi Padre.
17 Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?
18 And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.
19 And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.
20 Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.
26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.
27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.
24 La gracia de nuestro Señor Jesucristo sea con todos vosotros. Amén.

Jesús de Nazaret enseñó y demostró la unidad del hombre con el Padre, y por eso le debemos homenaje eterno. Su misión fue a la vez individual y colectiva. Él hizo bien la obra de la vida, no sólo en justicia para consigo mismo, sino por misericordia para con los mortales —para enseñarles a hacerla ellos mismos pero no para hacerla por ellos ni para eximirlos de una sola responsabilidad. Jesús obró valientemente, en contra del testimonio acreditado de los sentidos, en contra de los credos y las prácticas de los fariseos, y refutó a todos los opositores con su poder curativo.
Jesus of Nazareth taught and demonstrated man's oneness with the Father, and for this we owe him endless homage. His mission was both individual and collective. He did life's work aright not only in justice to himself, but in mercy to mortals, — to show them how to do theirs, but not to do it for them nor to relieve them of a single responsibility. Jesus acted boldly, against the accredited evidence of the senses, against Pharisaical creeds and practices, and he refuted all opponents with his healing power.
La Pascua, que Jesús celebró con sus discípulos en el mes de Nisán, en la víspera de su crucifixión, fue un acontecimiento pesaroso, una cena triste, tomada al declinar el día, en el crepúsculo de una gloriosa carrera mientras las tinieblas descendían rápidamente en derredor; y esa cena puso fin para siempre al ritualismo de Jesús, o sus concesiones a la materia.
Sus seguidores, tristes y silenciosos, presintiendo la hora en que se le haría traición a su Maestro, participaron del maná celestial que antaño había alimentado en el desierto a los perseguidos partidarios de la Verdad. Su pan realmente descendió del cielo. Era la gran verdad del ser espiritual, que sanaba a los enfermos y echaba fuera al error. Su Maestro la había explicado toda antes, y ahora ese pan los alimentaba y sostenía.
The Passover, which Jesus ate with his disciples in the month Nisan on the night before his crucifixion, was a mournful occasion, a sad supper taken at the close of day, in the twilight of a glorious career with shadows fast falling around; and this supper closed forever Jesus' ritualism or concessions to matter.
His followers, sorrowful and silent, anticipating the hour of their Master's betrayal, partook of the heavenly manna, which of old had fed in the wilderness the persecuted followers of Truth. Their bread indeed came down from heaven. It was the great truth of spiritual being, healing the sick and casting out error. Their Master had explained it all before, and now this bread was feeding and sustaining them.
Por esta verdad del ser espiritual su Maestro estaba a punto de sufrir violencia y apurar hasta el fondo su copa de dolor. Tenía que dejarles. Anticipando la gran gloria de una victoria eterna, dio gracias y dijo: "Bebed de ella todos".
For this truth of spiritual being, their Master was about to suffer violence and drain to the dregs his cup of sorrow. He must leave them. With the great glory of an everlasting victory overshadowing him, he gave thanks and said, "Drink ye all of it."
Jesús enseñó el camino de la Vida por medio de la demostración, para que pudiéramos comprender cómo ese Principio divino sana enfermos, echa fuera el error y triunfa sobre la muerte.
Aunque demostraba su dominio sobre el pecado y la enfermedad, el gran Maestro de ningún modo eximió a los demás de que por sí mismos dieran las pruebas indispensables de piedad. Trabajó para guiarles, a fin de que pudiesen demostrar ese poder como él lo demostró y comprender el Principio divino de ese poder. Una fe sin reservas en el Maestro y todo el amor emotivo que podamos dedicarle, jamás nos harán, por sí solos, sus imitadores. Tenemos que hacer lo que él hizo, de lo contrario no estamos aprovechando las grandes bendiciones que el trabajo y el sufrimiento de nuestro Maestro nos otorgaron. La divinidad del Cristo se manifestó en la humanidad de Jesús.
Jesus taught the way of Life by demonstration, that we may understand how this divine Principle heals the sick, casts out error, and triumphs over death.
Though demonstrating his control over sin and disease, the great Teacher by no means relieved others from giving the requisite proofs of their own piety. He worked for their guidance, that they might demonstrate this power as he did and understand its divine Principle. Implicit faith in the Teacher and all the emotional love we can bestow on him, will never alone make us imitators of him. We must go and do likewise, else we are not improving the great blessings which our Master worked and suffered to bestow upon us. The divinity of the Christ was made manifest in the humanity of Jesus.
La oración audible nunca puede hacer las obras de la comprensión espiritual, que regenera; mas la oración en silencio, la vigilancia y la obediencia devota nos capacitan para seguir el ejemplo de Jesús. Oraciones largas, supersticiones y credos cercenan las fuertes alas del amor y revisten la religión de formas humanas. Todo lo que materialice la adoración, obstruye el desarrollo espiritual del hombre y le impide que demuestre su poder sobre el error.
Audible prayer can never do the works of spiritual understanding, which regenerates; but silent prayer, watchfulness, and devout obedience enable us to follow Jesus' example. Long prayers, superstition, and creeds clip the strong pinions of love, and clothe religion in human forms. Whatever materializes worship hinders man's spiritual growth and keeps him from demonstrating his power over error.
Mientras el corazón está lejos de la Verdad y el Amor divinos, no podemos ocultar la ingratitud de una vida estéril.
Lo que más necesitamos es la oración del deseo ferviente de crecer en gracia, oración que se expresa en paciencia, humildad, amor y buenas obras. Guardar los mandamientos de nuestro Maestro y seguir su ejemplo, es nuestra deuda justa para con él y lo único digno de evidenciar nuestra gratitud por todo lo que ha hecho. El culto externo no es suficiente de por sí para expresar gratitud leal y sincera, ya que él ha dicho: "Si me amáis, guardad mis mandamientos".
While the heart is far from divine Truth and Love, we cannot conceal the ingratitude of barren lives.
What we most need is the prayer of fervent desire for growth in grace, expressed in patience, meekness, love, and good deeds. To keep the commandments of our Master and follow his example, is our proper debt to him and the only worthy evidence of our gratitude for all that he has done. Outward worship is not of itself sufficient to express loyal and heartfelt gratitude, since he has said: "If ye love me, keep my commandments."
Una oración verbosa puede que produzca una sensación apacible de justificación propia, aunque haga del pecador un hipócrita. No hay que desesperar jamás de un corazón sincero; pero hay pocas esperanzas para quienes se enfrentan sólo esporádicamente con su maldad y luego tratan de ocultarla. Sus oraciones son índices que no corresponden con su carácter. Participan secretamente en el pecado, y Jesús dijo que tales apariencias eran "semejantes a sepulcros blanqueados... llenos... de toda inmundicia".
Debiéramos examinarnos para saber cuáles son los afectos y propósitos del corazón, porque sólo de ese modo podemos saber lo que verdaderamente somos.
A wordy prayer may afford a quiet sense of self-justification, though it makes the sinner a hypocrite. We never need to despair of an honest heart; but there is little hope for those who come only spasmodically face to face with their wickedness and then seek to hide it. Their prayers are indexes which do not correspond with their character. They hold secret fellowship with sin, and such externals are spoken of by Jesus as "like unto whited sepulchres ... full ... of all uncleanness."
We should examine ourselves and learn what is the affection and purpose of the heart, for in this way only can we learn what we honestly are.
En la oración en público a menudo vamos más allá de nuestras convicciones, más allá del punto de deseos fervorosos y sinceros. Si no anhelamos en lo secreto y no luchamos abiertamente por lograr todo lo que pedimos, nuestras oraciones son "vanas repeticiones", tales como las que usan los gentiles. Si nuestras peticiones son sinceras, nos esforzamos por lograr lo que pedimos; y nuestro Padre, que ve en lo secreto, nos recompensará en público. … Dios sabe de lo que tenemos necesidad, antes de que se lo digamos a Él o a nuestros semejantes.
In public prayer we often go beyond our convictions, beyond the honest standpoint of fervent desire. If we are not secretly yearning and openly striving for the accomplishment of all we ask, our prayers are "vain repetitions," such as the heathen use. If our petitions are sincere, we labor for what we ask; and our Father, who seeth in secret, will reward us openly. … God knows our need before we tell Him or our fellow-beings about it.
… la oración, unida a un deseo fervoroso y constante de conocer y de hacer la voluntad de Dios, nos guiará a toda la Verdad. Tal deseo poco necesita de la expresión audible. Se expresa mejor en el pensamiento y en la vida.
…prayer, coupled with a fervent habitual desire to know and do the will of God, will bring us into all Truth. Such a desire has little need of audible expression. It is best expressed in thought and in life.
El Padre en secreto es invisible a los sentidos corporales, pero sabe todas las cosas y recompensa según los móviles, no según las palabras.
Tal oración es respondida en la proporción en que llevemos nuestros deseos a la práctica. El mandato del Maestro es que oremos en secreto v dejemos que nuestra vida atestigüe nuestra sinceridad.
The Father in secret is unseen to the physical senses, but He knows all things and rewards according to motives, not according to speech.
Such prayer is answered, in so far as we put our desires into practice. The Master's injunction is, that we pray in secret and let our lives attest our sincerity.
¡Quieran los cristianos de hoy obrar de acuerdo con el significado más práctico de aquella carrera! Es posible —sí, es deber y privilegio de todo niño, hombre y mujer— seguir, en cierto grado, el ejemplo del Maestro mediante la demostración de la Verdad y la Vida, la salud y la santidad. Los cristianos pretenden ser sus seguidores, pero ¿le siguen acaso de la manera que él mandó? Oíd estos imperiosos mandatos: "¡Sed, pues, vosotros perfectos, como vuestro Padre que está en los cielos es perfecto!" "¡Id por todo el mundo y predicad el evangelio a toda criatura!" "¡Sanad enfermos!"
May the Christians of to-day take up the more practical import of that career! It is possible, — yea, it is the duty and privilege of every child, man, and woman, — to follow in some degree the example of the Master by the demonstration of Truth and Life, of health and holiness. Christians claim to be his followers, but do they follow him in the way that he commanded? Hear these imperative commands: "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect!" "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature!" "Heal the sick!"
Si todos los que alguna vez participaron del sacramento hubieran realmente conmemorado los sufrimientos de Jesús y bebido de su copa, habrían revolucionado al mundo. Si todos los que procuran conmemorarlo por medio de símbolos materiales tomaran la cruz, sanaran enfermos, echaran fuera males y anunciaran el Cristo, o la Verdad, a los pobres —los de pensamiento receptivo— traerían el milenio.
If all who ever partook of the sacrament had really commemorated the sufferings of Jesus and drunk of his cup, they would have revolutionized the world. If all who seek his commemoration through material symbols will take up the cross, heal the sick, cast out evils, and preach Christ, or Truth, to the poor, — the receptive thought, — they will bring in the millennium.

Será deber de cada miembro de esta Iglesia orar diariamente: "Venga Tu reino"; haz que el reino de la Verdad, la Vida y el Amor divinos se establezca en mí, y quita de mí todo pecado; ¡y que Tu Palabra fecunde los afectos de toda la humanidad, y los gobierne!
Ni la animosidad ni el mero afecto personal deben impulsar los móviles o actos de los miembros de La Iglesia Madre. En la Ciencia, sólo el Amor divino gobierna al hombre, y el Científico Cristiano refleja la dulce amenidad del Amor al reprender el pecado, al expresar verdadera confraternidad, caridad y perdón. Los miembros de esta Iglesia deben velar y orar diariamente para ser liberados de todo mal, de profetizar, juzgar, condenar, aconsejar, influir o ser influidos erróneamente.
Será deber de todo miembro de esta Iglesia defenderse a diario de toda sugestión mental agresiva, y no dejarse inducir a olvido o negligencia en cuanto a su deber para con Dios, para con su Guía y para con la humanidad. Por sus obras será juzgado, — y justificado o condenado.
