“Dios es Espíritu; y los que le adoran, en espíritu y en verdad es necesario que adoren.”
“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”
1. Ahora, pues, ninguna condenación hay para los que están en Cristo Jesús, los que no andan conforme a la carne, sino conforme al Espíritu.
2. Porque la ley del Espíritu de vida en Cristo Jesús me ha librado de la ley del pecado y de la muerte.
3. Porque lo que era imposible para la ley, por cuanto era débil por la carne, Dios, enviando a su Hijo en semejanza de carne de pecado y a causa del pecado, condenó al pecado en la carne;
4. para que la justicia de la ley se cumpliese en nosotros, que no andamos conforme a la carne, sino conforme al Espíritu.
5. Porque los que son de la carne piensan en las cosas de la carne; pero los que son del Espíritu, en las cosas del Espíritu.
6. Porque el ocuparse de la carne es muerte, pero el ocuparse del Espíritu es vida y paz.
7. Por cuanto los designios de la carne son enemistad contra Dios; porque no se sujetan a la ley de Dios, ni tampoco pueden;
8. y los que viven según la carne no pueden agradar a Dios.
9. Mas vosotros no vivís según la carne, sino según el Espíritu, si es que el Espíritu de Dios mora en vosotros. Y si alguno no tiene el Espíritu de Cristo, no es de él.
1. There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
3. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
4. That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
5. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.
Leccion Sermon
1 Y habló Dios todas estas palabras, diciendo:
2 Yo soy Jehová tu Dios, que te saqué de la tierra de Egipto, de casa de servidumbre.
3 No tendrás dioses ajenos delante de mí.
4 No te harás imagen, ni ninguna semejanza de lo que esté arriba en el cielo, ni abajo en la tierra, ni en las aguas debajo de la tierra.
5 No te inclinarás a ellas, ni las honrarás; porque yo soy Jehová tu Dios, fuerte, celoso, que visito la maldad de los padres sobre los hijos hasta la tercera y cuarta generación de los que me aborrecen,
6 y hago misericordia a millares, a los que me aman y guardan mis mandamientos.
1 And God spake all these words, saying,
2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
1 Aconteció que cuando quiso Jehová alzar a Elías en un torbellino al cielo, Elías venía con Eliseo de Gilgal.
2 Y dijo Elías a Eliseo: Quédate ahora aquí, porque Jehová me ha enviado a Bet-el. Y Eliseo dijo: Vive Jehová, y vive tu alma, que no te dejaré. Descendieron, pues, a Bet-el.
3 Y saliendo a Eliseo los hijos de los profetas que estaban en Bet-el, le dijeron: ¿Sabes que Jehová te quitará hoy a tu señor de sobre ti? Y él dijo: Sí, yo lo sé; callad.
4 Y Elías le volvió a decir: Eliseo, quédate aquí ahora, porque Jehová me ha enviado a Jericó. Y él dijo: Vive Jehová, y vive tu alma, que no te dejaré. Vinieron, pues, a Jericó.
5 Y se acercaron a Eliseo los hijos de los profetas que estaban en Jericó, y le dijeron: ¿Sabes que Jehová te quitará hoy a tu señor de sobre ti? Él respondió: Sí, yo lo sé; callad.
6 Y Elías le dijo: Te ruego que te quedes aquí, porque Jehová me ha enviado al Jordán. Y él dijo: Vive Jehová, y vive tu alma, que no te dejaré. Fueron, pues, ambos.
7 Y vinieron cincuenta varones de los hijos de los profetas, y se pararon delante a lo lejos; y ellos dos se pararon junto al Jordán.
8 Tomando entonces Elías su manto, lo dobló, y golpeó las aguas, las cuales se apartaron a uno y a otro lado, y pasaron ambos por lo seco.
9 Cuando habían pasado, Elías dijo a Eliseo: Pide lo que quieras que haga por ti, antes que yo sea quitado de ti. Y dijo Eliseo: Te ruego que una doble porción de tu espíritu sea sobre mí.
10 Él le dijo: Cosa difícil has pedido. Si me vieres cuando fuere quitado de ti, te será hecho así; mas si no, no.
11 Y aconteció que yendo ellos y hablando, he aquí un carro de fuego con caballos de fuego apartó a los dos; y Elías subió al cielo en un torbellino.
12 Viéndolo Eliseo, clamaba: ¡Padre mío, padre mío, carro de Israel y su gente de a caballo! Y nunca más le vio; y tomando sus vestidos, los rompió en dos partes.
13 Alzó luego el manto de Elías que se le había caído, y volvió, y se paró a la orilla del Jordán.
14 Y tomando el manto de Elías que se le había caído, golpeó las aguas, y dijo: ¿Dónde está Jehová, el Dios de Elías? Y así que hubo golpeado del mismo modo las aguas, se apartaron a uno y a otro lado, y pasó Eliseo.
15 Viéndole los hijos de los profetas que estaban en Jericó al otro lado, dijeron: El espíritu de Elías reposó sobre Eliseo. Y vinieron a recibirle, y se postraron delante de él.
1 And it came to pass, when the Lord would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.
2 And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the Lord hath sent me to Beth-el. And Elisha said unto him, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Beth-el.
3 And the sons of the prophets that were at Beth-el came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Lord will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he said, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.
4 And Elijah said unto him, Elisha, tarry here, I pray thee; for the Lord hath sent me to Jericho. And he said, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho.
5 And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Lord will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he answered, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.
6 And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the Lord hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on.
7 And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Jordan.
8 And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.
9 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.
11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
12 And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.
13 He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;
14 And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the Lord God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over.
15 And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha.
21 Y este será mi pacto con ellos, dijo Jehová: El Espíritu mío que está sobre ti, y mis palabras que puse en tu boca, no faltarán de tu boca, ni de la boca de tus hijos, ni de la boca de los hijos de tus hijos, dijo Jehová, desde ahora y para siempre.
21 As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the Lord; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith the Lord, from henceforth and for ever.
16 Digo, pues: Andad en el Espíritu, y no satisfagáis los deseos de la carne.
17 Porque el deseo de la carne es contra el Espíritu, y el del Espíritu es contra la carne; y estos se oponen entre sí, para que no hagáis lo que quisiereis.
18 Pero si sois guiados por el Espíritu, no estáis bajo la ley.
19 Y manifiestas son las obras de la carne, que son: adulterio, fornicación, inmundicia, lascivia,
20 idolatría, hechicerías, enemistades, pleitos, celos, iras, contiendas, disensiones, herejías,
21 envidias, homicidios, borracheras, orgías, y cosas semejantes a estas; acerca de las cuales os amonesto, como ya os lo he dicho antes, que los que practican tales cosas no heredarán el reino de Dios.
22 Mas el fruto del Espíritu es amor, gozo, paz, paciencia, benignidad, bondad, fe,
23 mansedumbre, templanza; contra tales cosas no hay ley.
25 Si vivimos por el Espíritu, andemos también por el Espíritu.
16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
7 No os engañéis; Dios no puede ser burlado: pues todo lo que el hombre sembrare, eso también segará.
8 Porque el que siembra para su carne, de la carne segará corrupción; mas el que siembra para el Espíritu, del Espíritu segará vida eterna.
16 Y a todos los que anden conforme a esta regla, paz y misericordia sea a ellos, y al Israel de Dios.
7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.
La primera exigencia de esta Ciencia es: "No tendrás dioses ajenos delante de mí". Ese mí es Espíritu. Por lo tanto, el mandato significa esto: No tendrás ninguna inteligencia, ninguna vida, ninguna sustancia, ninguna verdad, ningún amor, que no sea espiritual.
The first demand of this Science is, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." This me is Spirit. Therefore the command means this: Thou shalt have no intelligence, no life, no substance, no truth, no love, but that which is spiritual.
En la Ciencia el hombre es linaje del Espíritu. Lo bello, lo bueno y lo puro constituyen su ascendencia. Su origen no está, como el de los mortales, en el instinto bruto, ni pasa él por condiciones materiales antes de alcanzar la inteligencia. El Espíritu es la fuente primitiva y última de su ser; Dios es su Padre, y la Vida es la ley de su existencia.
In Science man is the offspring of Spirit. The beautiful, good, and pure constitute his ancestry. His origin is not, like that of mortals, in brute instinct, nor does he pass through material conditions prior to reaching intelligence. Spirit is his primitive and ultimate source of being; God is his Father, and Life is the law of his being.
Desde el comienzo hasta el fin, las Escrituras están llenas de relatos del triunfo del Espíritu, la Mente, sobre la materia. Moisés probó el poder de la Mente mediante lo que los hombres llamaron milagros; igual hicieron Josué, Elías y Eliseo. La era Cristiana fue introducida por señales y prodigios.
From beginning to end, the Scriptures are full of accounts of the triumph of Spirit, Mind, over matter. Moses proved the power of Mind by what men called miracles; so did Joshua, Elijah, and Elisha. The Christian era was ushered in with signs and wonders.
Los milagros son imposibles en la Ciencia, y en esto la Ciencia está en desacuerdo con las religiones populares. La manifestación científica del poder proviene de la naturaleza divina y no es sobrenatural, ya que la Ciencia es una explicación de la naturaleza. La creencia de que el universo, incluso el hombre, está gobernado en general por leyes materiales, pero que ocasionalmente el Espíritu aparta esas leyes, es una creencia que desprecia a la sabiduría omnipotente y da a la materia prioridad sobre el Espíritu.
Es contrario a la Ciencia Cristiana suponer que la vida es, o bien material, u orgánicamente espiritual. Entre la Ciencia Cristiana y toda forma de superstición está puesta una gran sima, tan infranqueable como aquella entre el hombre rico y Lázaro.
Miracles are impossible in Science, and here Science takes issue with popular religions. The scientific manifestation of power is from the divine nature and is not supernatural, since Science is an explication of nature. The belief that the universe, including man, is governed in general by material laws, but that occasionally Spirit sets aside these laws, — this belief belittles omnipotent wisdom, and gives to matter the precedence over Spirit.
It is contrary to Christian Science to suppose that life is either material or organically spiritual. Between Christian Science and all forms of superstition a great gulf is fixed, as impassable as that between Dives and Lazarus.
Los antiguos profetas lograron su previsión desde un punto de vista espiritual e incorpóreo, no presagiando el mal ni confundiendo la realidad con la ficción, o sea, prediciendo el futuro desde una base de corporalidad y de creencias humanas. Cuando los hombres están suficientemente adelantados en la Ciencia para estar en armonía con la verdad del ser, se vuelven involuntariamente videntes y profetas, gobernados no por demonios, espíritus, o semidioses, sino por el Espíritu único. Es prerrogativa de la Mente divina y siempre presente, y del pensamiento que está acorde con esta Mente, conocer el pasado, el presente y el futuro.
The ancient prophets gained their foresight from a spiritual, incorporeal standpoint, not by foreshadowing evil and mistaking fact for fiction, — predicting the future from a groundwork of corporeality and human belief. When sufficiently advanced in Science to be in harmony with the truth of being, men become seers and prophets involuntarily, controlled not by demons, spirits, or demigods, but by the one Spirit. It is the prerogative of the ever-present, divine Mind, and of thought which is in rapport with this Mind, to know the past, the present, and the future.
Según la Ciencia Cristiana, los únicos sentidos reales del hombre son espirituales y emanan de la Mente divina. El pensamiento pasa de Dios al hombre, pero ni sensación ni comunicación pasan del cuerpo material a la Mente. La intercomunicación proviene siempre de Dios y va a Su idea, el hombre.
La materia no es consciente y no puede tener conocimiento del bien o del mal, del placer o del dolor. La individualidad del hombre no es material. Esta Ciencia del ser gobierna no sólo en el más allá, en lo que los hombres llaman paraíso, sino aquí y ahora; es la gran verdad del ser para el tiempo y la eternidad.
¿Qué es, entonces, la personalidad material que sufre, peca y muere? No es el hombre, quien es la imagen y semejanza de Dios, sino la contrahechura del hombre, la semejanza invertida, la desemejanza llamada pecado, enfermedad y muerte. La irrealidad de la pretensión de que un mortal sea la imagen verdadera de Dios es ilustrada por las naturalezas opuestas del Espíritu y de la materia, de la Mente y del cuerpo, porque la una es inteligencia, mientras que la otra es no-inteligencia.
According to Christian Science, the only real senses of man are spiritual, emanating from divine Mind. Thought passes from God to man, but neither sensation nor report goes from material body to Mind. The intercommunication is always from God to His idea, man.
Matter is not sentient and cannot be cognizant of good or of evil, of pleasure or of pain. Man's individuality is not material. This Science of being obtains not alone hereafter in what men call Paradise, but here and now; it is the great fact of being for time and eternity.
What, then, is the material personality which suffers, sins, and dies? It is not man, the image and likeness of God, but man's counterfeit, the inverted likeness, the unlikeness called sin, sickness, and death. The unreality of the claim that a mortal is the true image of God is illustrated by the opposite natures of Spirit and matter, Mind and body, for one is intelligence while the other is non-intelligence.
La verdadera Vida, o Mente, y su opuesto, la llamada vida y mente material, están representados por dos símbolos geométricos: un círculo o una esfera y una línea recta. El círculo representa al infinito, sin comienzo ni fin; la línea recta representa a lo finito, que tiene ambos, comienzo y fin. La esfera representa al bien, la individualidad o Mente que existe por sí misma y es eterna; la línea recta representa al mal, la creencia en una existencia material autocreada y temporaria.
La Mente eterna y la existencia material y temporaria jamás se unen ni en símbolo ni en hecho.
Una línea recta no mora en una curva, y una curva no se ajusta a una línea recta. Similarmente, la materia no tiene lugar en el Espíritu, y el Espíritu no tiene lugar en la materia.
The real Life, or Mind, and its opposite, the so-called material life and mind, are figured by two geometrical symbols, a circle or sphere and a straight line. The circle represents the infinite without beginning or end; the straight line represents the finite, which has both beginning and end. The sphere represents good, the self-existent and eternal individuality or Mind; the straight line represents evil, a belief in a self-made and temporary material existence. Eternal Mind and temporary material existence never unite in figure or in fact.
A straight line finds no abiding-place in a curve, and a curve finds no adjustment to a straight line. Similarly, matter has no place in Spirit, and Spirit has no place in matter.
El hombre comprende la existencia espiritual en la proporción en que aumenta sus tesoros de Verdad y Amor. Los mortales deben gravitar hacia Dios, espiritualizando sus afectos y propósitos —deben acercarse a interpretaciones más amplias del ser y obtener un concepto más acertado del infinito— a fin de poder despojarse del pecado y la mortalidad.
Ese concepto científico del ser, que abandona la materia por el Espíritu, de ningún modo sugiere la absorción del hombre en la Deidad y la pérdida de su identidad, sino que confiere al hombre una individualidad más amplia, una esfera de pensamiento y acción más extensa, un amor más expansivo, una paz más elevada y más permanente.
Man understands spiritual existence in proportion as his treasures of Truth and Love are enlarged. Mortals must gravitate Godward, their affections and aims grow spiritual, — they must near the broader interpretations of being, and gain some proper sense of the infinite, — in order that sin and mortality may be put off.
This scientific sense of being, forsaking matter for Spirit, by no means suggests man's absorption into Deity and the loss of his identity, but confers upon man enlarged individuality, a wider sphere of thought and action, a more expansive love, a higher and more permanent peace.
La mente mortal a través de la cual aparece más claramente la Verdad es aquella que ha perdido mucha materialidad — mucho error— para ofrecer mayor transparencia a la Verdad. Entonces, como una nube que se desvanece en tenue vapor, ya no oculta más al sol.
The mortal mind through which Truth appears most vividly is that one which has lost much materiality — much error — in order to become a better transparency for Truth. Then, like a cloud melting into thin vapor, it no longer hides the sun.
La consciencia construye un cuerpo mejor cuando la fe en la materia se ha vencido. Corregid la creencia material con la comprensión espiritual, y el Espíritu os formará de nuevo. Jamás volveréis a tener otro temor que no sea el de ofender a Dios, y jamás creeréis que el corazón o cualquier otra parte del cuerpo os pueda destruir.
Consciousness constructs a better body when faith in matter has been conquered. Correct material belief by spiritual understanding, and Spirit will form you anew. You will never fear again except to offend God, and you will never believe that heart or any portion of the body can destroy you.
Del Amor y de la luz y armonía que son la morada del Espíritu, pueden venir sólo reflejos del bien.
Bien comprendido, en lugar de poseer un cuerpo material y sensible, el hombre tiene un cuerpo insensible; y Dios, el Alma del hombre y de toda la existencia, siendo perpetuo en Su propia individualidad, armonía e inmortalidad, imparte y perpetúa esas cualidades en el hombre —por medio de la Mente, no de la materia. La única excusa para abrigar opiniones humanas y rechazar la Ciencia del ser es nuestra mortal ignorancia en cuanto al Espíritu —ignorancia que cede solo a la comprensión de la Ciencia divina, la comprensión por la cual entramos en el reino de la Verdad en la tierra y aprendemos que el Espíritu es infinito y supremo. El Espíritu y la materia no se mezclan más de lo que se mezclan la luz y las tinieblas. Cuando aparece uno, desaparece el otro.
From Love and from the light and harmony which are the abode of Spirit, only reflections of good can come.
Rightly understood, instead of possessing a sentient material form, man has a sensationless body; and God, the Soul of man and of all existence, being perpetual in His own individuality, harmony, and immortality, imparts and perpetuates these qualities in man, — through Mind, not matter. The only excuse for entertaining human opinions and rejecting the Science of being is our mortal ignorance of Spirit, — ignorance which yields only to the understanding of divine Science, the understanding by which we enter into the kingdom of Truth on earth and learn that Spirit is infinite and supreme. Spirit and matter no more commingle than light and darkness. When one appears, the other disappears.
A medida que los mortales empiezan a comprender el Espíritu, abandonan la creencia de que haya alguna existencia verdadera aparte de Dios.
As mortals begin to understand Spirit, they give up the belief that there is any true existence apart from God.

Será deber de cada miembro de esta Iglesia orar diariamente: "Venga Tu reino"; haz que el reino de la Verdad, la Vida y el Amor divinos se establezca en mí, y quita de mí todo pecado; ¡y que Tu Palabra fecunde los afectos de toda la humanidad, y los gobierne!
Ni la animosidad ni el mero afecto personal deben impulsar los móviles o actos de los miembros de La Iglesia Madre. En la Ciencia, sólo el Amor divino gobierna al hombre, y el Científico Cristiano refleja la dulce amenidad del Amor al reprender el pecado, al expresar verdadera confraternidad, caridad y perdón. Los miembros de esta Iglesia deben velar y orar diariamente para ser liberados de todo mal, de profetizar, juzgar, condenar, aconsejar, influir o ser influidos erróneamente.
Será deber de todo miembro de esta Iglesia defenderse a diario de toda sugestión mental agresiva, y no dejarse inducir a olvido o negligencia en cuanto a su deber para con Dios, para con su Guía y para con la humanidad. Por sus obras será juzgado, — y justificado o condenado.
